Event messages
Attach event messages to
external connectors on the System Architecture Diagram. For an external connector you can:
• send a new event
• send an existing event
• annotate the external connector with an event name, message parameters and a directional arrow
• indicate the duration of the event
You can model an Event through Sequence Diagrams, Communication Diagrams and Activity Diagrams.
To send a new event:
1. On the System Architecture Diagram toolbar, click
.
2. Click the required link.
3. Point to the destination of the event message.
The external connector is associated with a new event message. Change this event message through the Property pages.
To send an existing event
1. Drag the event from the dictionary to the external connector on the diagram.
2. Point to the destination of the event message.
The external connector is associated with the existing event. Change this event message through the Property pages.
To rename an event
1. Select the event.
2. Change the name in the General tab of the Property pages.
The event has a new name which will appear on the diagram. Indicate an iterative event by prefixing the name with an asterisk (*).
To change the properties of an event instance:
1. Right-click the event on the diagram.
2. Click Instance Properties.
3. Select the Options tab of the Property pages.
4. Enter a sequence number in Dewey decimal format to structure message descriptions. Letters show concurrent messages.
5. Enter name arguments in the Result box.
New sequence numbers and name arguments are displayed on the diagram.
To change the properties of an event:
1. Select the event.
2. Change the required properties in the Property pages.
