Embedding and linking external configuration files (CM tool integration)
You can embed and link external configuration files as OLE objects in Modeler rich text fields, that is, diagram Notes, Text Diagrams, RTF properties and rich text Tag Definitions.
If you are using a configuration management tool, you may want to embed external configuration files so that those files are versioned with Modeler Package files. You can embed files up to a size of 1 gigabyte; however, storing large files in the model results in a larger model and degradation in performance.
If you experience problems embedding or linking an external configuration file as an OLE object, you can create a Windows shortcut to the external configuration file, and then paste a copy of the shortcut into the rich text field.
To embed or link an external configuration file:
1. Open the rich text in which you want to embed an external configuration file.
2. Right-click the position in which you want to insert the external configuration file or link, and then click Insert OLE Object.
3. Select the Create From File option.
4. Click Browse, select the external configuration file you want to embed or link, and then click OK.
5. If you want to embed a link to the file rather than embedding the file itself, select the Link check box.
6. From the Insert Object dialog, click OK.
To add a shortcut to an external configuration file:
1. Create a Windows shortcut to the external configuration file.
You can do this in Windows Explorer by using the right mouse button to drag the file, and then clicking Create Shortcut(s) Here.
2. Copy the shortcut you created.
3. In Modeler, open the rich text to which you want to add the shortcut.
4. Paste the shortcut in the required position.
