Setting a Custom Unit System
Each unit system has its own set of simplification rules, defined by the Base Dimensions and the Derived Units. These rules are applied to results expressed in base units or when using the derived units to simplify results. The paragraphs below describe how to view and change the simplification rules for each unit system.
Setting a Custom Unit System
1. Click > .
2. Under Select unit system, select Custom.
3. Select an option from the Based on drop down menu.
Changing Base Dimensions
1. Select an item from the Base Dimensions list.
2. Click Change next to the Base dimensions list. The Change Base Dimensions Units dialog box opens.
3. Select a unit for this dimension from the Unit list.
4. Click OK.
Changing Derived Units
1. Select an item from the Base dimensions list.
2. Click Change next to the Derived Units list. The Change Derived Units dialog box opens.
3. Select a dimension from the Dimension list.
4. Select a unit for this dimension from the Unit list.
5. Click OK.
Inserting Dimensions and Units
1. Click Insert. The Insert Derived Units dialog box opens.
2. Select a dimension from the Dimension list.
3. Select a unit for this dimension from the Unit list.
4. Click OK.
Removing Units
You can remove derived unit rules, if you do not want to simplify a particular combination of base units. When you remove derived units, the default units of your unit system are used.
1. Select an item from the Derived Units list.
2. Click Remove. The derived unit that is selected is removed from the list.
3. Click OK.
