Naming Files
When you open a source file in a foreign format, i.e. when you import it, the window for the converted file has the same name as the source file but with the extension .idr. If this .idr file already exists in the source file folder, the converted file is given the name Untitled X.idr.
If, after editing in 3D mode, you convert 3D files to 2D mode in order to produce an illustration, the 2D file appears in a window with the name Untitled X.idr. This window is located behind the window from which you converted the 2D file. To activate this new window, select the file from the list of open files in the Window menu. You can also select the Window > Arrange all menu. The window will then be located in the stack of open files directly behind the window from which you conducted the conversion.
When assigning file names, the difference between the 3D and 2D versions of a source file should be reflected in the name. This file name differentiation should be implemented irrespective of whether the files are in different folders or not.
The file name itself should be unambiguous and relate to the content of the file. This is particularly important when a number of different users are working with the files.
File names can incorporate:
1. Machine identifiers (type, serial number)
2. assembly names
3. types of illustration (drawing for a spare parts catalog, illustration for operating instructions, colored graphic, etc.)
4. types of file (source file, 3D file, 2D file)
