About Toroidal Bends
The Toroidal Bend feature transforms solids, nonsolid surfaces, or datum curves into toroidal (revolved) shapes. For example, you could use this functionality to create an automobile tire from flat geometry or to wrap a logo around revolved geometry like bottles.
Click Model > Engineering > Toroidal Bend to add a Toroidal Bend feature. Mandatory parameters to define a toroidal bend feature are the profile section, the bend radius of the neutral plane, and the bending geometry. Optional parameters are the normals curve section and the nonstandard curve bend option.
Profile Section—Defines the profile section of the revolved geometry.
Bend Radius—Sets the distance between the origin of the coordinate system and the bend axis.
Normals Reference Section—Defines the post-bending direction of surfaces normal to the neutral plane. All surfaces that are normal to the neutral plane in the flat state become normal to the profile surface after bending. This can be problematic if the profile section has areas of high curvature or is nontangent. Surfaces normal to the neutral plane in the flat state can have bad geometry after bending, or cannot be bent because the bending transformation generates overlapping geometry, such as a sharp truck-tire edge. You can apply the Normals Reference Section to set these surfaces to become normal to the referenced surface, instead of becoming normal to the profile surface.
Curve Bend—Sets the distance from the points on the curves to the plane of the profile section of a bend that has a curved profile.
