MILL sweeps one or more profiles through one or more parts, removing all of the material in the swept volume.

Options

• :PART - specifies the part(s) to be milled.
• :WP - specifies the workplane which will be swept.
• :TYPE - specifies the type of milling operation. Select from the following types:

  Mill Type	Mill Type Option
  Distance:	:DISTANCE_TYPE
  To Part:	:TO_PART_TYPE
  To Faces:	:TO_FACES_TYPE
  To Point:	: TO_POINT_TYPE
  To Plane:	:TO_PLANE_TYPE

  The field corresponding to the selected type of milling operation is activated.

  • :DISTANCE - specifies how far the tool will be swept.
  • :TO_PART - specifies the part that the workplane will be swept toward.
  • :TO_FACES - specifies the face or faces to which the workplane will be swept toward.
  • :TO_POINT - specifies a point to which the workplane will be swept toward.
  • :TO_PLANE - specifies a plane to which the workplane will be swept toward.
• :DIRECTION - specifies the direction in which the tool will move. Choose from the following options:

  Direction Option	Description
  :+W	Mill in the direction of the positive normal of the workplane containing the profile.
  :-W	Mill in the direction of the negative normal of the workplane containing the profile.
  :BOTH_SIDES	Mill to both sides of the workplane. Only active for :DISTANCE_TYPE milling operations. OneSpace Designer mills the specified distance on both sides of the workplane.
  :USER_DEF	Mill in a direction specified by way of the MEASURE_DIR_SA. Only active for :DISTANCE_TYPE milling operations.

• :AUTO_DIRECTION - when set to :YES, OneSpace Designer attempts to set the direction of the milling operation automatically according to the mill type option:

  Mill Type Option	Automatically Selected Direction
  :DISTANCE_TYPE	If an existing part is selected and it is not empty, the direction is toward the part. If a new part, or an empty part is selected, the direction is the negative normal of the selected workplane.
  :TO_PART_TYPE	Toward the selected part.
  :TO_FACES_TYPE	Toward the selected faces.
  : TO_POINT_TYPE	Toward the selected point.
  :TO_PLANE_TYPE	Toward the selected plane.

  A user-specified direction overrides the :AUTO_DIRECTION option.

• :KEEP_WP - selects whether to keep the workplane on completion of the milling operation.
• :KEEP_PROFILE - selects whether to keep the profile(s) on completion of the milling operation. When set to :NO, the workplane is cleared of 2D geometry after the operation.

You must supply the information as specified in the syntax diagram.

Rules for use

• To a part, a face, a point, a plane; or through a distance in a user-defined direction.
• Along the positive or negative W-axis (+W or -W); or on both sides of the workplane simultaneously. If you have chosen to mill through a particular distance, you must define the direction of the milling operation using MEASURE_DIR_SA.
• Relative to the active workplane coordinate system.
• Relative to the current global coordinate system.

It is not possible to mill a part in a direction that is parallel to the active workplane.

Example

1. Enter MILL to display the default control box.
2. Specify the part you want to mill, the current part is the default.
3. Enter a distance of 15.
4. Specify the milling direction along the +W axis.
5. Choose whether to keep the workplane after the operation.
6. Choose whether to keep the profile after the operation.
7. Enter COMPLETE to terminate the set up operation.
