Overview of the Conversion Process
You can use the Creo View Adapters to convert CAD data to the Creo View format. The conversion process is called publishing. After you publish files, you can view them using the Creo View client. There are three publishing methods:
Interactive—Adds a Creo View menu to the MCAD tool. You can open, inspect, and change the file before publishing it. Not available for all CAD tools.
Command-line—Publishes one or more files via a command line interface. Once a file is published, the Creo View Adapter creates the files in a directory that you specify. Command-line publishing is also referred to as Batch publishing. Available for all CAD tools.
Server-controlled—Uses the Creo View Adapters as workers to automatically publish Creo View data based on a queue of publishing jobs sent from the Windchill server. The resulting viewables are uploaded to the Windchill server. Server-controlled publishing is also referred to as Worker publishing. Available for all CAD tools.
The adapter scripts created are named according to their MCAD tool and the publishing method. For example, these are the names of the files for the Creo View Adapter for Creo Parametric:
Interactive—proepublish
Command-line (Batch)—proebatch
Server-controlled (Worker)—proeworker
Restrictions for third-party CAD system and auxiliary tools such as the Thumbnail Generator that are required to carry out the conversion, are shown in the Creo View Adapters Software Matrix.
