About Animation Effects
Animation effects are predefined behaviors that can be applied to components. Effects are represented in the timeline by effect segments, these segments can be moved and stretched just like any other segment in the timeline. Most effects have settings that can be edited at any time.
Depending on the effect there are some actions that cannot be applied to an effect, for example split & merge are not permitted on any effect and reverse can only be applied to an unscrew effect. For scenarios where an action that cannot be applied to an effect is required the effect can be converted to keyframes.
1. In an open animation, with the animation recording on, select one or more parts.
2. Open the effects list in one of the following ways:
On the Animation tab, in the Record group, click the arrow below Effects.
Right-click in the graphics area and point to Effects on the shortcut menu.
3. Select an effect from the list:
Fly In
Fly Out
Fade In
Fade Out
Shake
Pulse
Flash
Set Color
Unscrew
To Edit an Effect
All effects can be edited but it depends on the effect as to what settings there are, for example the unscrew effect has settings for Direction, CSYS, Rotation etc but the Fade In/Fade Out effects have no settings other than the ability to add or remove components.
1. In the timeline select an effect track, the effect properties pane opens on the left.
2. In the effect properties pane click on Edit effect settings, the effect dialog box opens.
3. Make the required changes for the effects. The available settings will vary depending on the effect.
4. Click OK, the changes are applied to the effect.
To Convert an Effect to Keyframes
All effects can be converted to keyframes.
*
Once an effect is converted to keyframes, it cannot be converted back to an effect.
1. In the timeline select an effect track. The effect properties pane opens on the left.
2. In the effect properties pane click on Convert to Keyframes. A message displays explaining that the effect cannot be converted back.
3. Click Yes to continue to convert the effect to keyframes or click No to cancel.
