To Add and Manage Symbols in the Symbols Library
To Add and Delete Symbols
1. Open the Model-Symbols options pane in the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box in one of the following ways:
From the Ribbon:
a. In the Home tab, in the Insert group, click Symbols. The symbol gallery opens.
b. Click Open Symbol Library. The Symbol Library dialog box opens.
c. Click Manage. The Creo Illustrate Options dialog box opens showing the Model-Symbols options on the right.
2. To delete a symbol from the Symbol Library, perform the following steps:
a. In the symbol gallery, click the symbol to delete.
b. Click Delete. The symbol is removed from the Symbol Library.

Symbols from the standard or shared preferences cannot be deleted.
3. To add a symbol to the Symbol Library, do the following:
a. Click Add. The Symbol dialog box opens.
b. Browse to the file to add, and then click Open. The Add To Library dialog box opens.
c. In the Title and Description text boxes, type the symbol title and descriptive text.
d. Under Tooltip, select Title and Description to display both the tooltip title and description when you place the pointer over the symbol.
e. In the Category list, select a category or to add a new category select Manage Categories.
The Manage Categories dialog opens.
Click Add. The Add Category dialog box opens. In the Name field type the name of the new category. Click OK to add the category. Click Cancel to close without adding a category.
To Edit Symbols
1. Open the Model-Symbols options pane in the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box in one of the following ways:
From the Ribbon:
a. In the Home tab, in the Insert group, click Symbols. The symbol gallery opens.
b. In the gallery, click Open Symbol Library. The Symbol Library dialog box opens.
c. Click Manage. The Creo Illustrate Options dialog box opens showing Model-Symbols options on the right.
From the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box:
a. Click File > Options. The Creo Illustrate Options dialog box opens.
b. In the Showing box, select Illustration.
c. On the left, under Model, select Symbols. The Model-Symbols options open on the right.
2. Click a symbol to edit, and then click Edit. The Symbol:Edit dialog box opens showing the selected settings and preview image for the symbol.
3. In the Title and Description text boxes, edit the symbol title and descriptive text.
4. Under Tooltip, select Title and Description to display both the tooltip title and description when you place the pointer over the symbol.
5. In the Category list, select a symbol gallery category or to add a new category select Manage Categories.
The Manage Categories dialog opens.
Click Add. The Add Category dialog box opens. In the Name field type the name of the new category. Click OK to add the category. Click Cancel to close without adding a category.

A category listed from the standard cannot be edited or deleted.
A category can be deleted if empty.
6. To add, edit or delete a tag associated with a symbol perform these steps:
a. Double click on the symbol in the Tags list.
The Edit Tag dialog box opens.
b. Next to Type, select a symbol from the drop down menu. The symbol is selected.
c. Type a Description in the description text box.
d. Type the number and units when relevant in the Quantity and Units text boxes.
e. Click OK and to close the Edit Tag dialog box. Click Cancel to close the Edit Tag dialog box without editing a tag.
7. Specify transformations to be applied to the symbol when you insert it in the figure. The preview image in the Symbol:Edit dialog box changes to reflect your settings.
For 2D symbols, under Image Defaults, you can select these options:
Rotate Right or Rotate Left—Rotates the symbol incrementally to the right (clockwise) or left (counterclockwise).
Flip Vertical or Flip Horizontal—Rotates the symbol 180 degrees about the (vertical) y-axis or (horizontal) x-axis.
Always face the camera—Faces the 2D symbol to the front regardless of the figure orientation.
For 3D symbols, under 3D Defaults, you can select these options:
Scale—Type or scroll and select a scale factor to specify the size of the symbol on insertion as a percentage of its original size.
CSYS—Select the coordinate system in the figure for the alignment of the 3D symbol on insertion.
Orientation—The symbol orientation remains constant in relation to the figure orientation.
8. Click OK to save changes and close the Symbol:Edit dialog box. Click Cancel to close without saving changes.

When the gallery is locked you cannot add, edit or delete any insets in the gallery. These are the indications that the gallery is locked:
A lock symbol appears besides the Edit button
in the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box.
The Add, Edit, and Delete buttons appear dimmed in the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box.
