About Importing and Exporting Files
You can import one or more 3D CAD files into a new or existing illustration C3DI file. On import, you choose to either link the source 3D CAD data to the illustration file or embed a copy of it.
Each linked or embedded CAD file you import adds a new branch to the illustration sBOM tree. The imported branch can contain new parts and assemblies. It can also contain links to external 3D CAD files (“branch links”).
The import filters for most 3D CAD formats are automatically installed by default when you install Creo Illustrate. However, the JT filter must be manually installed. You can customize the installation to include only the filters you need. Some 3D CAD import filters require that a licensed copy of the 3D CAD application be installed on your system or network.
In Creo Illustrate, you can save the active figure to the following file types:
An image file (2D)
A 3D file
A 2D illustration file in HLR render mode with an optional shaded background image
