Icons Used in Creo Simulate
When you create most modeling entities, Creo Simulate adds icons to your model in the work area to indicate the presence of the entity and its associations. The following topics illustrate and briefly describe most of the icons used in the Creo Simulate work area. This discussion does not cover beam section icons. You can learn about beam section icons by reading the online help for the beam section you are interested in.

Coordinate Systems
Coordinate systems are represented using the following icons. The coordinate system designated for the current session is highlighted in the work area.
World Coordinate System or Cartesian User Coordinate System
Icon
Description
Appears when you create a Cartesian coordinate system. This icon also represents the world coordinate system. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Cylindrical User Coordinate System

Appears when you create a cylindrical coordinate system. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Spherical User Coordinate System

Appears when you create a spherical coordinate system. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Connections
Connections are represented using the following icons:
Welds
Icon
Description
Appears when you create an end or a perimeter weld between the components in an assembly. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Spot Welds

Description
Appears when you create a spot weld between entities. The size of the rings in the icon depends on the spot weld diameter. When you change the view, the size of the icon changes but its orientation remains unchanged.
Interfaces

Appears when you create a free or an adiabatic interface between the components or surfaces in a model. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Appears when you create a bonded interface between the components or surfaces in a model. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Appears when you create a contact interface between the components or surfaces in a model. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Gaps (FEM Mode only)
Gap-Point-Point

Appears when you define a gap between two points in a model. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Gap-Point-Edge/Surface

Description
Appears when you define a gap between a point and an edge or a point and a surface in the model. The dot represents the foot of a perpendicular dropped from a point on the edge or surface. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Gap-Surf-Surf

Appears when you define a gap between two surfaces in a model. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Rigid and Weighted Links

Appears in native and FEM modes when you create a rigid or a weighted link between components in an assembly. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged.
Constraints
Structure and Thermal have only one common constraint type cyclic symmetry, represented by the following icon:

Appears at each location where you apply a cyclic symmetry constraint. In 3D, small torii are oriented along the geometrical references. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged.

Mesh Control

Appears near a selected geometrical reference (surface or edge) when you create a mesh or an AutoGEM control. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged.

Masses

2D Icon
3D Icon
Represents a mass concentrated at a point. Mass is represented by a small sphere in 3D.
Springs (advanced and simple)
Icon
Description
Represents a spring between two points. When you change the view, the orientation of the icon changes but its scale remains unchanged. The spring orientation is indicated by arrow vectors at one end of the icon in Advance spring. The Y vector points in the spring’s y-direction and the other vector points in the spring’s z-direction.
Springs (to ground)

Description
Appears as a coil extending from a point to the ground. Represents a spring connected to ground. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged.
Cracks

Description
Appears in native mode when you define a crack idealization using a reference curve in 2D mode or a quilt surface in 3D mode. It is zoom sensitive but the orientation of the icon remains unchanged even when you change the view.
Connections
Contact is the only Interface type that is not common to Structure and Thermal. It is represented by the following icon:

Appears in native and FEM modes when you define a contact between two curves in a 2D model or between two surfaces in a 3D model. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged.
Constraints
Constraints in Structure are represented by the following icons:

Appears at each location at which you apply a constraint. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged.
the default icon shows the degrees of freedom that you have constrained. Two rows of boxes appear at the base of the triangle. Each box represents a degree of freedom.
top row—displacement degrees of freedom
bottom row—rotational degrees of freedom
Boxes corresponding to degrees of freedom that you have constrained or for which you prescribed a displacement are filled. Boxes corresponding to degrees of freedom that you have designated as free are empty.
For example, the default icon shown above indicates that the displacement along the x- and y-axes is constrained and the rotation about the z-axis is constrained. In 3D tetrahedrons and cones are used to represent the translation and rotation displacements. If tetrahedrons are displayed in the x-direction then the x-translations are fixed. If cones are displayed in the z-direction then rotation about the z-axis is fixed.

Total Load At Point

Appears on an entity to which you apply a force or a moment load, associate the load to entities, and specify Total Load At Point as the distribution method. The icon appears as an arrow pointing in the direction of the force vector. When you change the view, both the orientation and the scale of the icon remain unchanged. Total Load At Point distributions are only available in native mode.
Gravity Loads
