About Updating Dependent Catalog Items
When the path to a Central Catalog is specified for a design, the Internal Catalog is automatically compared to the Central Catalog when it is opened in the design. Items in the dependent catalog are compared against the linked items in the associated Central Catalog. The Catalog Synchronization Required dialog box opens when the Internal Catalog contains items with the same ID as items in the Central Catalog. Central Catalog items that are not used in the design are not saved with the design. When Central Catalog errors are reported, the Catalog remains independent until the errors are resolved.
To update the Internal Catalog, click Design > Verify Catalog when you open the design or to reflect changes to the Central Catalog while you are working on it. When there are discrepancies between items in the Central Catalog and those in the Internal Catalog, the Catalog Verify Results and Resolution dialog box opens. Errors that can be resolved in the same way are grouped together and can be resolved as a group. You can display a list of individual failures for each error and decide which error to ignore, update, or submit the item to the Temporary Submission Directory. Items that are pending approval are resolved by the catalog administrator when they are integrated into the Central Catalog. The following table lists the different types of error:

The following changes occur whenever catalog items are updated:
Updated datatables and membermaps propagate the changes to the objects that reference them. The change is similar to reloading the datatable or membermap.
Updated artifacts and shapes only update in the catalog. A log file is created in the working directory and lists the updated items and the folders they in. Since you must manually update each instance in the design you can use the log to find the items in the Catalog Explorer. Select each shape of the artifact in the Catalog Explorer and click . The artifact parameters, datasets, and membermaps must also be manually updated.
