To Import a Part or Assembly
1. Click File > Open or click on the Quick Access Toolbar. The File Open dialog box opens.
2. Browse and select a part or assembly model file.
3. Select All Files (*) or a specific import file type in Type.
4. Click Import. The Import New Model dialog box opens. Type shows the model type set to Part or Assembly by default depending on whether you selected a part or assembly file to import in the File Open dialog box.
5. Select an import profile from the Profile list to replace the current profile or click Details and modify the import options of the current profile.
6. Click Use templates to use custom start part and assembly template files for the import.
7. Set Import type as Geometry, Facet, or Curve to change the data type of the model during import or retain the default selection of Automatic. For file formats that support Associative Topology Bus (ATB), the Enable ATB option is selected by default.
8. Click Generate log file and the associated Short or Long option to generate a short or long log file with the import details in the working directory.
9. Select one of the following Representation options:
Master—Imports the geometric and non-geometric data and displays the full representation of the assembly model. This is the default.
Graphic—Imports the display data of the assembly model.
Structure—Imports the product structure and meta data of the assembly model.
File name displays the model name.
10. Click OK to import the model. File formats that support ATB are imported as Translated Image Models (TIMs) with ATB capabilities.
