About Topology Options in the Import Profiles
The Topology tab of the import profiles has options to join surfaces, solidify features, and repair the geometry of the part and assembly models during their import.
The surface topology options available in the import profiles are as follows:
Join surfaces from different layers, groups, or shells—Joins surfaces even if they do not belong to the same layers. Automatic is the default, select Yes or No.
Join surfaces from the same layer, group, or shell—Joins surfaces that belong to the same layer. Automatic is the default, select Yes or No.
Solidify closed volumes—Creates solid features from closed volumes. Join the edges of surfaces to create closed volumes. Automatic is the default, select Yes or No.
You can use the Heal options to repair the unsatisfied topological connections and tangency conditions of the part and assembly models. The heal geometry options are as follows:
Close gaps between surfaces—Closes gaps between the boundaries of surfaces in the imported model.
Repair unsatisfied geometry—Repairs the defective geometry of the imported models that are caused by non-existing or failing topological connections and tangency constraints.
You can use Correct tangency conditions between surfaces with Repair unsatisfied geometry to fix the tangency conditions associated with the unsatisfied topological connections. Fixing tangency conditions ensures tangent continuity between the surfaces of the imported models.
If the unsatisfied topological connections and tangency conditions of the foreign part and assembly models are not completely resolved, you can use Import DataDoctor (IDD) to repair the problem geometry of the imported models.
The following table lists the mapping between the legacy configuration options that controlled the import of 3D data and the import profile options for the import of surface topology:
