About Importing the Section Views of Creo Elements/Direct Associative Drawings
The associative import of the Creo Elements/Direct *.mi, *.bi, or *.bdl drawing files includes the import of section views in the drawings to Creo Parametric. You must select the Drawing associative with model option under Views in the Import MI dialog box to import the section views as associative 3D views. The import of the section views includes the transfer of the surface section views as cross-section views to Creo Parametric.
You can create a section view in a drawing to show the cross-section of a part when a parent view is available. The cross-section views created in the imported drawings are associative. The cross-section views that include the surface section views are also imported as associative views to Creo Parametric. The related cross-section arrows are imported as draft entities by default. You must set the intf2d_in_ced_xsec_arrows configuration option to yes to import them as associative cross-section arrows. Dimensions attached to the surface section views are imported as associative dimensions. However, when model changes impact the dimensions that reference the surface sections of the section views, fully associative dimension updates are only supported by the part-level drawings.
When the parent or the owner views are imported as non-associative views, their dependent cross-section views are also imported as non-associative views. Section views that are dependent on other section views or referencing partial views are also imported as non-associative views.
Creo Elements/Direct views containing configurations in combination with sections or surface sections are not supported for import. Additionally, the associative import of drawings that include a combination of exploded states and cutaway views does not support the import of the following views and parts:
Aligned section views
Section views that reference partial views
Views with configurations combined with sections or surface sections
Views containing secured parts
Sectioned face parts
Full section views containing secured parts are imported to Creo Parametric as associative views and the secured parts are excluded from the cross-sections. However, surface section views are imported as 2D views. Parts such as nuts, bolts, and rivets that are defined as secured parts are not affected by sectioning and are not split by sectioning in Creo Elements/Direct.
After the associative import of the Creo Elements/Direct drawing files, the edges of the components in the offset section views with secured parts are displayed differently in Creo Parametric from their display in Creo Elements/Direct, when the section lines are normal to the secured parts in the viewing direction. The display of the edges is not the same in Creo Parametric and Creo Elements/Direct because the applications behave differently when the section lines are normal to the secured parts. Creo Elements/Direct gives preference to the section lines that are normal to the secured parts while Creo Parametric gives preference to the secured parts.
