Instrumented Assemblies > Using Sensors > To Insert a Sensor
To Insert a Sensor
Use the procedures below to insert a physical or virtual sensor in your design.
Inserting Physical Sensors
1. Perform one of the following operations:
In an open Instrumented Assembly, click Insert Sensor > Physical Sensor.
In a design assembly click Tools > Insert Sensor > Physical Sensor.
The Open dialog box opens.
2. Select the sensor model to place and click Open. The Sensor tab opens.
3. Place the sensor using the available placement constraints.
4. To determine the data type of the sensor, set it as one of the following:
(Measured data, default)—Data is sent from an outside source to Creo Parametric. The relation created by the sensor parameter is driven by an outside source.
(Calculated data)—Data is sent from Creo Parametric to an outside source.
5. To link sensor parameters to the model, click Sensor. The Sensor tab opens.
6. To link an undefined parameter, click UNDEFINED. The Add Link dialog box opens. Follow the steps below. You do not have to define parameters when you place the sensor.
a. Select the type of item to link.
Dimension—Select a dimension in the model.
Parameter—Opens the Parameters dialog box to select a parameter in the top-level model, a component in the model, or a feature.
b. Select the item for the link in the graphics window, or select the parameter.
c. Click OK.
7. To view and edit relations created for a parameter, follow the steps below.
a. Select the parameter in the Parameter list. The relations appear in the Where used list.
b. Click the link of the required parameter. The Relations dialog box opens.
c. View and edit relations and click OK.
8. Repeat step 6 above to define additional parameters.
9. Click . The sensor is added to the model and the sensor parameters are visible as an annotation in the graphics window. To show or hide sensor parameters in the graphics window, click in the graphics toolbar.
Inserting Virtual Sensors
Virtual sensors are features and appear as features in the Model Tree. Virtual sensor parameters are visible in the graphics window when Annotations are displayed. When you place a virtual sensor, you are placing the annotation.
1. Perform one of the following operations:
In an open Instrumented Assembly, click Insert Sensor > Virtual Sensor.
In a design assembly click Tools > Insert Sensor > Virtual Sensor.
The Open dialog box opens.
2. Select a sensor model to use and click Open. The Sensor tab opens and the sensor parameters are attached as note to the pointer.
3. Click a location on the model to place the annotation reference. Middle-click to place the sensor parameters annotation. You can use the buttons on the tab to insert the sensor annotation with () or without () a leader line.
4. To link the sensor parameters to parameters in the model, click Sensor. The Sensor tab opens.
5. To link an undefined parameter, click UNDEFINED. The Add Link dialog box opens. Follow the steps below. You do not have to define parameters when you place the sensor.
a. Select the type of item to link.
Parameter—Opens the Parameters dialog box to select a parameter in the top-level model, a component in the model, or a feature.
Dimension—Select a dimension in the model.
b. Select the item for the link in the graphics window, or select the parameter and click Insert Selected.
c. To see the relation created, click the + adjacent to Show Relation. The relation created appears in the box. Click Relations to open the Relations dialog box.
*
The parameter is on the left side of the relation.
d. Click OK.
6. Repeat step 5 above to define additional parameters.
7. Click . The sensor is added to the model as a feature and the sensor parameters are visible as an annotation in the graphics window.
