To Create a Cam-Follower Connection
You can create a cam-follower connection from the surfaces or curves on two rigid bodies in your mechanism. It is not necessary to define either rigid body as a cam before starting this procedure.
1. Click
. The
Cam-Follower Connection Definition dialog box opens.
2. Type a new name or accept the default name.
3. Click the Cam1 tab.
4. Click
and select surfaces or curves on the first rigid body to define the first cam. Click
OK to confirm your selection.
5. Keep the following points in mind when selecting cams:
◦ If you select the Autoselect box, surfaces for your cam are automatically chosen after you select the first surface. If there is more than one possible adjacent surface, you are prompted to select a second surface.
◦ When you select cam surfaces, surface normal direction is indicated by a magenta arrow.
◦ If you select a straight curve or edge, the dialog box expands, activating the Working plane collector. Use the selection arrow to select a point, vertex, planar solid surface, or datum plane to define a working plane for the cam. You can select a straight curve or edge for only one of the two cams.
6. To reverse the direction of the surface normal for the cam, click Flip. If the selected surfaces are on a volume, the default normal direction will be out, and Flip is inactive. The surface normal direction indicates the cam side to be used for cam contact.
7. If you select a surface, use the following items to orient the cam on the surface:
◦ Automatic (not available for a curve, edge, or a flat planar surface)
◦ Front & Back
◦ Front, Back & Depth
◦ Center & Depth
8. Click the Cam2 tab and follow steps 5 through 7.
9. Enter the information on the Properties tab.
10. Click OK.
