Querying Results—Creo Ansys Simulation
Creo Ansys Simulation has the following kinds of simulation probes that you can use to view result quantities at specific locations on the model, for a simulation study:
Simulation Query—You can use a simulation query to dynamically query the results of the active quantity at a specific point on your model once the study run completes. This type of probe is active only while the particular result is active, and is not saved with the study.
Predefined Simulation Probes—These probes can be created before or after a study runs. They are saved with the study and are available on the Simulation Tree as simulation objects. You can create multiple probes for different result quantities for a study.
Using Simulation Queries
The following is the workflow for creating and using a simulation query:
1. Define a simulation study. Apply loads, constraints, materials and other optional simulation objects for the study.
2. Run the simulation study.
3. Once the simulation study run completes, select the result that you want to observe from the Simulation Tree, and click to activate it.
4. Click on the results mini toolbar to open the Simulation Query dialog box and enter the probing mode where the value of the active result quantity is dynamically updated as you select different points on the model.
5. Select a point on the model at which you want to view the active result. The value of the result at the selected point is displayed on the model in the Graphics Window.
6. Click Save if you want to save your query. A probe creation dialog is launched that enables you to save the query.
7. Click Close to exit the probing mode.
Using Predefined Simulation Probes
Predefined probes can be defined before or after you run a simulation study. The following is the workflow for defining and using predefined probes for the active study:
1. Click Simulation Probe to open the Simulation Probe dialog box.
The Simulation Probe dialog box also opens when you click Save on the Simulation Query dialog box.
2. Select the type of result for which you want to create a probe from the Results type list. The type of results available in the list depends on the active study type.
3. Select the units of the result quantity or accept the default.
4. Select one of the following result components from the Probe type list:
Value at Point—View the result quantity at a selected point.
Minimum—View the minimum value of the selected result type for a selected reference.
Maximum—View the maximum value of the selected result type for a selected reference.
Average—View the average value of the selected result type for a selected reference.
Sum—View the sum of the components of the selected result type for a selected reference.
5. Select a reference for which you want to apply the probe. Your selection is displayed in the References list. The valid references are as follows:
For Value at Point—Only points on surfaces are valid references.
For all other options—All solid geometry types are valid references. Multiple references of the same type are also allowed.
Non geometrical references like beams, springs, contacts and joints are also valid references for some result types.
6. Click OK to save the probe. The probe is added to the Simulation Tree under the subnode Probes of the Results node.
You can also view all saved probes for a model by clicking Tools > Saved Analysis.
Click on the probe in the Graphics Window, to view the details of the probe, such as the name of the simulation study, and the value of the result quantity.
Click to minimize the probe.
After you save a simulation probe you can edit, copy, delete, rename, or hide it by right-clicking the probe in the Simulation Tree. By default, only the probes of the active simulation study are visible. Probes defined for other studies are hidden. This behavior is controlled by the configuration option simulation_probes_auto_hide that has a default value yes.
Frequency Table Probe
For modal studies you can create a special probe that provides a table of modes versus frequencies. To create the frequency table probe select Frequency Table for Results type. This probe is applied to the model and not to any specific references.
If you create a simulation probe after running a simulation study the results are not evaluated for the probe. Right-click Results in the Simulation Tree and select Update Results to evaluate the newly added probe.
