About the Remove User Interface
The Remove tool consists of commands, tabs, and shortcut menus. Click Model > Editing > Remove, or click Flexible Modeling > Remove, to open the Remove Surface tab.
Commands
Type
Surface—Sets the tool to remove surfaces.
Quilt Boundary Chain—Sets the tool to remove edge chains.
References
Surfaces to remove collector—Displays the surfaces, surface sets, surface regions, or intent surfaces to remove when Surface is selected.
Edges to remove collector—Displays a single-sided closed-loop chain of edges to remove when Quilt Boundary Chain is selected.
Options
Leave Open—Removes the selected surface without extending or trimming the neighboring surfaces. When the removed surface belongs to a solid body, then the remaining solid surfaces are converted to a quilt. Available when Surface is selected.

Surfaces to remove collector—Displays the surfaces, surface sets, surface regions, or intent surfaces, from a single body or a single quilt, to remove.
Details—Opens the Surface Sets dialog box.
Edges to remove collector—Displays a single-sided closed-loop chain of edges to remove.
Details—Opens the Chain dialog box.
Options
Attachment
When the geometry selected for removal belongs to a solid body:
Solid—Creates the attached geometry as solid geometry.
Surface—Creates the attached geometry as quilt geometry.
When the geometry selected for removal belongs to a quilt:
Same quilt—Creates the attached geometry as part of the existing quilt.
New quilt—Creates the attached geometry as a new quilt.
Keep removed surfaces check box—Converts the selected surface to a separate quilt instead of removing it.
Auto split shape surfaces check box—When the surface selection defines a shape, splits any surfaces that are shared by the selected shape, and by other surfaces, so that only the portions of the shared surfaces that are within the selected shape are removed.
Exclude Contours collector—For multi-contour surfaces, displays contours to exclude from the Remove Surface feature. Not available when you select chains or single-contour surfaces to remove.
Find next possible solution—Navigates between possible geometry configurations for surface removal.
Previous—Displays a preview of the previous solution. Not available when the system displays the first solution.
Next—Displays a preview of the next possible geometry configuration to create the Remove Surface feature. When you click Next and the system is unable to find any other possible solution, then Next becomes unavailable.
Maintain solution topology check box—Preserves the topology of the current solution when the feature is regenerated. If the same topology cannot be reconstructed due to changes in the model, regeneration of the feature will fail.
Properties
Name box—Shows the name of the feature.
—Displays detailed component information in a browser.
Shortcut Menus
Right-click the graphics window to access shortcut menu commands.
Geometry Search—Opens the Geometry Search Tool dialog box.
Geometry Rule Surfaces—Opens the Geometry Rules dialog box.
Shape Surfaces—Opens the Shape Surface Sets dialog box.
Tangent Surfaces—Broadens the selection to include the surfaces that are tangent to the selected surface.
Body Surfaces—Broadens the selection to include the surfaces of the selected body.
Removed Surfaces—Activates the Surfaces to remove collector.
Excluded Surface Contours—Activates the Exclude Contours collector.
Clear—Clears the active collector.
Same quilt—Creates the attached geometry as part of the existing quilt, when the geometry selected for removal belongs to a quilt.
New quilt—Creates the attached geometry as a new quilt, when the geometry selected for removal belongs to a quilt.
Previous—Navigates to a preview of the previous solution to create the Remove feature.
Next—Navigates to a preview of the next possible geometry configuration to create the Remove feature.
