About Splitting Surfaces
Some shape surface sets that are selected for removal contain surfaces that are shared by shapes included in the surface set, and shapes that are not included in the surface set. The system automatically splits these shared surfaces so that only the portions of the shared surfaces that belong to the selected shapes are removed. You have the option not to split the shared surfaces, and then the entire shared surface can be removed.
To split shared surfaces so that only the portions that belong to the selected shape are removed, click > , and then select the Auto split shape surfaces check box. To remove the entire shared surface, including portions that do not belong to the shape to remove, clear the Auto split shape surfaces check box.
In the following example, the surfaces of a boss are selected for removal. One surface in the selected surface set is shared by the boss, and another shape:
1. Shared surface
A splitting surface is selected to divide the shared surface into two portions, one portion that belongs to the boss, and the remaining portion of the surface that does not belong to the boss.
1. Shared surface
2. Splitting surface
In the resulting geometry, only the portion of the shared surface that belongs to the boss is removed.
