About Copied Models Retaining Common Names of Original Models
If you set the
retain_common_name_on_copy configuration option to
yes before you copy, mirror, or replace models in
Creo Parametric, the copies of the models retain the common names of the original models as their common names. However, the
retain_common_name_on_copy configuration option is set to
no by default and the common names of the copies are the same as their new file names.
For example, when a part with file name BOLT.PRT and common name BOLT3x3 is copied, the file name and the common name of the copy of the part, by default, is NEW_BOLT.PRT. If you set the retain_common_name_on_copy configuration option to yes before you copy the part, the common name of the original model, BOLT3x3, is retained by the newly copied part as its common name. That is, BOLT3x3 is the common name of the original part as well as its newly-created copy.
When the retain_common_name_on_copy configuration option is set to yes, the common names of the original part or assembly models are retained by the copies of the models as their common names when you perform the following tasks:
• Copy parts using the > > command. You can verify whether the common names of the copies of the parts are the same as their original part models after the copies are created.
• Copy assemblies using the > > command. When you set Action as Save a Copy in the Assembly Save a Copy Component Chooser dialog box, the Common Name column displays the common names of the original components as the common names of the copies of the components.
• Mirror a component of an assembly using the > command or right-click a component on the Model Tree and click Mirror Component on resultant menu. The Common name box in the Mirror Component dialog box displays the common name of original component as the common name of the mirrored copy of the component.
• Mirror an assembly using the > > command. You can verify whether the mirrored copies of the components have retained the common names of the original components after the mirrored copies of the assembly and its components are created.
• Replace components of an assembly with new copies using the > > command. You can verify whether the newly replaced copies of the components have retained the common names of the original components after the components are replaced.
However, in a Windchill-connected session of Creo Parametric, if the Object Initialization Rule (OIR) is set to automatically generate file names, the copies of the models are assigned the server-generated names as their common names. The Windchill-generated name of <Generated> appears in the Common Name column of the Assembly Save a Copy Component Chooser dialog box and the Common name box of the Mirror Component dialog box.
If the OIR is not set and the
retain_common_name_on_copy configuration option is set to the default value of
no, the copies of the models retain their new file names as their common names.
