To Specify the Contents of the PDF Document
1. Open a drawing, click File > Save As > Save a Copy, and specify PDF (*.pdf) as the file type for export in the Save a Copy dialog box. The PDF Export Settings dialog box opens.
2. Click the Content tab on the PDF Export Settings dialog box to specify the contents in the PDF export, including information for navigation and search.
The following drawing or feature attributes are specified by default:
The visible layers and model parameters are included in the export.
Bookmarks are set for zones, views, drawing sheets, and flag notes.
Stroked fonts that are not TrueType are used for the text.
The standard PDF format is selected for the export.
The hyperlinks are active.
3. Click All under Layers to export all the layers on the drawing or click None to export the visible entities on the drawing, but not the layers on which they are placed.
4. Click Designated under Parameters to include only the specified model parameters or click None to export the drawing to the PDF format without the model parameters.
5. Generate bookmarks for all or some of the following:
Zones—Makes the PDF zoom in to the corresponding predefined region on the drawing sheet.
Views—Makes the PDF zoom in to the corresponding extents of the view which is a predefined region on the drawing. No view bookmark is generated for a drawing with only 2D entities.
Sheets—Displays the corresponding drawing sheet. Single-sheet drawings are ignored.
Flag Notes—The instances of the flag notes are listed in the bookmark. If the instances of the flag notes are on a sheet other than the current sheet, the corresponding drawing sheet with the instances of the flag notes is displayed. The PDF zooms in to a flag note when you select the flag note.
6. Click Stroke All Fonts to create text as stroked line segments or click Use TrueType Fonts to use TrueType fonts. Stroke Non TrueType Fonts is the default. The Add Searchable Text check box that makes text searchable is selected by default for stroked fonts.

The Add Searchable Text check box is not available when you click Use TrueType Fonts.
7. Select PDF or PDF/A–1 as the format for the export in Save As under Compatibility.

You cannot export layers to the PDF/A-1 format. If you select the PDF/A-1 format, the Layers options are not available on the PDF Export Settings dialog box.
8. Retain the selection of Active Hyperlinks, which is the default, to export notes as active URLs in the PDF output or clear this check box to export notes with link properties only as label text.
9. Click OK on the PDF Export Settings dialog box. The file is exported with your content settings.
If a dialog box prompts you to substitute fonts that are not embedded in the PDF-A/1 files, click OK every time the dialog box opens for each font that is not embedded in the PDF-A/1 files.
