About Manipulating the Solidification of GTS Tree Nodes
The Geometry and Topology Structure (GTS) Tree displays the solid and the nonsolid geometry of the imported features as body and quilt nodes based on your selection of the following options on the Import tab while inserting non-native parts in the existing parts or while redefining the imported features.
• Add Bodies • Add Material • Add Surfaces However, you can use these options on the Import tab along with the Solid option in Import DataDoctor (IDD) and manipulate the solidification of the nonsolid geometry of the imported features at the level of the individual nodes on the GTS Tree. The Solid option controls the solidification of the nonsolid geometry of the imported features and is available as a check box on the shortcut menu when you right-click a top-level body or quilt node on the GTS Tree. The Solid check box appears selected by default for a body node. If you right-click the body node and clear the selection of the Solid check box on the shortcut menu, the system-assigned generic name of Body #### changes to Quilt ####. Subsequently, Quilt #### reverts to Body #### when you right-click the node and select the Solid check box. That is, the Solid check box appears selected by default for body nodes, even when the solids in the body node are generated from quilts. This check box does not appear selected for the quilt nodes, even when they represent closed quilts.
For example, when you insert a non-native part model that contains solid bodies in an existing part with the Add Surfaces option selected on the Import tab, the Solid check box on the shortcut menu does not appear selected when you right-click the top-level body node on the GTS Tree. This is because the top-level node that represents all the geometry of the imported feature is generated from nonsolid geometry. Regardless of whether the Solid check box is selected, the surface and solid quilts of the node are considered as nonsolid geometry.
For a non-native part inserted or redefined with the Add Bodies option on the Import tab and the Solid check box selected, a new solid body is created and represented as a GTS Tree node. If the quilts are closed, the new body is automatically populated with the solid geometry of the closed quilts.
This new body is empty when the quilts do not close and fail to solidify. You can click Geometry Checks on the Analyze tab in IDD and use the Troubleshooter to verify the solidification failure. Click > in the Troubleshooter and verify if the Solid node with open quilts diagnostic is checked in the IDD Troubleshooter Settings dialog box. A red dot next to the diagnostic identifies it as an error.
You can then repair the quilts that fail to solidify in IDD until they are closed and the resultant solid geometry populates the empty body. No separate bodies are created for the closed quilts.
If the Solid check box does not appear selected for a body node that was created with the Add Bodies option selected on the Import tab, solid geometry is removed from the body on the GTS Tree node. This body then becomes empty or may contain other solid geometry that are downstream and contributing solid geometry to the import feature.
When Add Material is selected on the Import tab, if you right-click a quilt node on the GTS Tree and select the Solid check box on the shortcut menu to solidify the quilt node, geometry is added to the existing body node. If you do not select the Solid check box, geometry is not added to this node.
