About Saving non-Creo Models Opened from Disk in Windchill Workspace
After you open Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, and Creo Elements/Direct models in Creo from disk, you can check in the non-Creo models to Windchill servers and upload them as primary CAD Documents to the Windchill Workspace. In the Windchill connected mode of Creo, the dependent models and components of assemblies are checked in when you upload non-Creo assembly models to the Windchill Workspace. Multibodied non-Creo NX and SolidWorks part models are checked in as simple parts.
You must retrieve Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, and Creo Elements/Direct*.sdpc and *.sdac models in Creo from disk and the retrieved non-Creo models must exist on disk before you upload the non-Creo models to the Windchill Workspace. You cannot save and upload the non-Creo models to the Windchill Workspace from their native CAD tools and the respective Windchill Workgroup Manager after you have uploaded the non-Creo models to the Windchill Workspace from Creo.
In the Windchill connected mode of Creo, you can use the following commands to upload the non-Creo models to the Windchill Workspace:
File > Check In
File > Save > Save and Upload
File > Save As > Save a Copy
If you use the File > Check In > Custom Check In command, you can use the Custom Check In dialog box to check in the non-Creo models to Windchill servers and upload them as CAD Documents to the Windchill Workspace from Creo. The non-Creo data is saved and uploaded to the Windchill Workspace as the primary content of the CAD Documents.
*
CAD Documents created by the uploaded of the non-Creo models to the Windchill Workspace through Creo are marked as read-only when they are retrieved in the native CAD tools through the respective Windchill Workgroup Manager.
After you upload the non-Creo models to Windchill from Creo, you can retrieve the non-Creo models from the Windchill Workspace in a session of Creo, just as you retrieve non-Creo models through the respective Windchill Workgroup Manager. You can rename the assembly components and other dependents in Windchill and export them back to the local disk from the Windchill Workspace.
