In parts and assemblies, welding symbols are 3D symbol annotation elements (AEs) embedded inside a welding feature. They are automatically generated when you create a weld. Placement, sizing, layer, and search tool behavior of welding symbols is the same as that of other 3D symbol AEs.

The welding symbol's appearance is determined by the welding feature's type, parameters, attributes, and welding standard. The weld_ui_standard configuration option determines whether the symbol appearance conforms to the ISO or ANSI standard. Most variable texts in welding symbols parametrically display the values of welding feature parameters.

If variable text in a welding symbol calls out a parameter in a welding feature, you can edit the parameter's value directly from the symbol by selecting the text in the graphics window and typing in a new value, and the welding feature displays the change. Conversely, when you edit a parameter in the welding feature that is called out by variable text in a welding symbol, the symbol displays the change.

In the graphics window, welding symbols are attached with a leader either directly to a weld or to another welding symbol.
