Handling Children Annotations of Parent Features
The handling of children annotations of parent features is controlled by Detail options. See the following table for the Detail options and the result of the default setting, yes, for these Detail options.

When you exclude a feature, the child annotations are automatically excluded and do not fail during model regeneration.
The excluded annotations are identified with glyph in the Detail Tree, Model Tree, and Annotation Status column in the Model Tree
excl_annotations_of_excluded
The standalone annotations that reference the parent feature are automatically excluded in the following instances:
• In a family table, when you open an instance in which the reference feature is excluded in a separate window.
• When you exclude a feature using Simplified Representation in the Model Tree. Right-click a feature in the Model Tree, Representation > Exclude.
excl_annotations_of_section
The child annotations of sections are excluded when the section is not active and not visible in the cross section.

• excl_annotations_of_deleted
When you delete or suppress a parent annotation feature, the annotation elements that reference the parent feature are excluded when the annotation feature is suspended in the Children Handling dialog box. The excluded annotation elements appear in the Annotation Status column in the Model Tree, and the Annotation Feature dialog box.
In the Annotation Status column in the Model Tree, the status of annotations appears as follows. You can set the display of the Annotation Status from the Model Tree Columns dialog box.
• Excluded—Excluded annotations.
• Failed—Annotations with strong missing references.
• Missing References—Annotations with weak missing references.
• Unconverted—Legacy annotations that are not converted to modernized annotations..
• Not Available—Legacy annotations that cannot be converted and have no regeneration state. Applicable only for standalone annotations.
When you set the detail option excl_annotations_of_excluded to Yes and exclude the parent feature, the standalone annotations that reference the parent feature, are automatically excluded in the following scenarios:
• In a family table, when you open an instance in which the reference feature is excluded in a separate window.
• When you exclude a feature using Simplified Representation in the Model Tree. Right-click a feature in the Model Tree, Representation > Exclude.
Excluding Annotations of Sections
The children annotations of sections are excluded when the section is not active and is not shown. This is only applicable when you set the detail option excl_annotations_of_section to Yes.
Excluding Annotation Elements
If you delete or suppress a parent annotation feature, the annotation elements that reference the parent feature are excluded in the following conditions:
• If you suspend the annotation feature from the Children Handling dialog box.
• If you want to delete the parent annotation feature, set the detail option excl_annotations_of_deleted to Yes.
• If you want to suppress the parent annotation feature, set the detail option excl_annotations_of_suppressed to Yes.
The excluded annotation elements are displayed in the Annotation Status column and Annotation Feature dialog box.
Excluding Stacked Annotations
Primarily, when you delete or suppress a reference of a leader of a stacked annotation, the stacked annotations are excluded with the leader. When the stack leader is included, all its stack annotations are included.
Stacked annotation can be automatically excluded if it has semantic references. Leader of the stack is not excluded. Only the affected stacked member is excluded. When the annotations are placed as, GTOL on GTOL on GTOL, if the middle GTOL is excluded, the position of the last GTOL is shifted and it is attached to the 1st GTOL. The position of the middle GTOL is restored when the excluded GTOL is automatically included.
Excluding a stack leader, which is either a standalone annotation or owned by an annotation feature, excludes all its stack annotations. If a stacked annotation member fails when the stack leader is excluded, the stacked members are excluded along with the stacked leader.
Excluding Ordinate Dimensions
The ordinate dimensions that references the baseline are treated as stacked annotations. If you exclude the baseline reference, the referencing ordinate dimensions are also excluded.
Exclusion of Annotations in Drawing Environment
The Exclusion of annotations are driven by the model. Exclusion or inclusion an annotation in a model environment affect its appearance in the existing drawing. An excluded annotation is not visible in the drawing sheet. Auto Included annotation is resumed in the drawing.
In the drawing environment, the model annotations that are referencing the section geometry in the combination state are not affected by the excluded state of the annotation.
The Excluded glyph is attached to the annotation in the Model Tree. You can delete and rename the excluded annotations using the mini toolbar.
Annotations Referencing Excluded, Failed, or Deleted Parents
If an annotation is referencing different parents and if one reference is excluded and other reference is fails, the following occurs:
• The annotation fails model regeneration.
• The reference that fails takes precedence over the reference that is excluded.
• In the Annotations Status column in the Model Tree, the status of the failed references appears as Failed or Missing References.
