To Create an Automatic Workpiece
1. Click Manufacturing > Workpiece > Automatic Workpiece. Creo NC activates the Auto Workpiece Creation tab.
2. Click the appropriate icon to select the shape of the workpiece. You can create a billet or rectangular workpiece () or a bar or round workpiece ().
3. In the adjacent box, select the sub-shape.
Custom—You can define the overall dimensions and offsets of the workpiece.
EnvelopeCreo NC automatically defines the minimum overall dimensions and current offsets. You can only define the minimum offsets and angular offsets. You can use Envelope to reset the current offsets to the minimum values.
4. Click the Placement tab and specify the coordinate system and the reference model using their respective collectors.

Creo NC automatically specifies the coordinate system of the reference model in the Coordinate System collector. If there is no reference model, or multiple reference models, or if you have removed the coordinate system, you must specify it. Right-click the Coordinate System collector for a shortcut menu to remove the coordinate system or see its information.
Creo NC automatically specifies the reference model in the Reference Model collector if the manufacturing assembly has only one reference model. If the manufacturing assembly has multiple reference models, you must specify the reference model you want to create the workpiece around. Right-click the Reference Model collector for a shortcut menu to remove the reference model or models or see the reference model's information.
5. Click the Options slide up panel to specify values for the units, overall dimensions, and stock offsets.
a. In the Units box, select the units.
b. In the X Total box, specify the overall dimensions for the workpiece in the x-direction. This value applies only for a billet workpiece.
c. In the Y Total box, specify the overall dimensions for the workpiece in the y-direction. This value applies only for a billet workpiece.
d. In the Z Total box, specify the overall dimensions for the workpiece in the z-direction. This value applies only for a billet workpiece.
e. In the Diameter Total box, specify the diameter of the workpiece. This value applies only for a bar workpiece.
f. In the Length Total box, specify the length of the workpiece. This value applies only for a bar workpiece.

Any change in the overall dimensions affects the offset values and vice versa.
Changes in the rotation offsets may affect the overall dimensions and linear offset values.
The most recently-specified value (any of the overall dimensions, linear offsets and rotation offsets) determines the overall dimensions.
You cannot specify a value lower than the dimensions of the reference model.
g. Click Current Offsets to specify the stock offsets of the workpiece around the reference model and along the positive and negative x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. These values apply only for a billet workpiece. For a bar workpiece, click Current Offsets to specify the stock offsets applied to the diameter and along the positive and negative directions of the length.

The values of the current offsets can not be lower than the minimum offsets.
You cannot define the overall dimensions and current offsets in the envelope sub-shape of the workpiece.
h. Click Minimum Offsets to specify the minimum values of stock offsets of the workpiece around the reference model along the positive and negative x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. These values apply only for a billet workpiece. For a bar workpiece, click Minimum Offsets to specify the stock offsets applied to the diameter and along the positive and negative directions of the length.
i. In the About X box, specify the angular stock offset of the workpiece around the x-axis of the reference model.
j. In the About Y box, specify the angular stock offset of the workpiece around the y-axis of the reference model.
k. In the About Z box, specify the angular stock offset of the workpiece around the z-axis of the reference model.
6. Click the Properties tab and type the name and the common name of the workpiece.
7. If you are satisfied with the workpiece you created, click .

You can right-click the Graphics Window for a shortcut menu to select a coordinate system and a reference model or models, clear the currently active collector, and select the shape of the workpiece.
You can use the handles in the Graphics Window to drag and change the dimensions of the workpiece.
