Example: Merge Groups and Same Behavior Groups

The following example illustrates the creation of automatic merge groups in the process table. To create an automatic merge group, you must click the Apply AutoMerge check box in the Mfg Template AE extraction dialog box while extracting manufacturing templates to the process table.

Creo NC automatically merges steps that have the same manufacturing criteria name, use the same Mfg template and tool, and have the same orientation. In the process manager, the merge group and the group members are identified by the merge icon

and the locked icon

respectively. In the following example, MERGE001 is the merge group and DRILL_2ET_005 through DRILL_2ET_016 are the merged steps.

You cannot edit a merged step as long as the step is part of a merge group. To edit a step, you must select the step and exclude the step from the merge group.

The following example illustrates the creation of same behavior groups in the process table. To create an automatic same behavior group, you must select the Create same behavior groups check box in the Mfg Template AE extraction dialog box while extracting manufacturing templates to the process table. All the steps that are of the same step type, have the same manufacturing criteria name, use the same Mfg template and tool, and have the same orientation as the selected step are combined to create one or more same behavior groups. The leader of the same behavior group is identified by the step icon

. In the following example, STANDARD_DRILLING1 is the leader step for the same behavior group 222_STANDARD_DRILLING1 while steps STANDARD_DRILLING1_000 through step STANDARD_DRILLING1_004 are the children for this group.
