To Insert Surface Finish Symbols
1. On the Annotate tab, click Surface Finish. The Surface Finish dialog box opens.
2. Click the arrow next to Model, and select the model name or the drawing.
3. Click the arrow next to Symbol name. A list of all the symbols that are currently in the drawing appears. If symbols have the same names, but are stored in different symbol directories, the system identifies them in the symbols list by a number within parentheses (#). Select a symbol name.
4. Under Placement, select the placement type of the symbol from the following options in the Type list:
Free—Symbol is placed freely at any location on the screen.
On Entity—Symbol is placed on the selected entity.
On Intersect—Symbol is placed on the intersection of two selected entities.
Normal to Entity—Symbol is placed perpendicular to the selected entity.
With Leaders—Symbol is placed with leaders attached on the selected entities.
At Vertex—Symbol snaps to the selected vertex.
Offset—Symbol is placed offset from a reference.
Absolute Coordinates—Symbol is placed at the specified location that is defined as X and Y coordinates with reference to the drawing origin.

If you select a placement option with a leader, you can specify the arrowhead type by clicking the arrow next to Arrowhead, and selecting the arrowhead style.
5. Under Properties, define the height, angle and color of the symbol.
6. Under Origin, Default uses the origin of the symbol as defined in the symbol definition for the symbol placement. To specify a custom origin for the symbol instance, click Custom.
7. Use the Grouping tab to specify which groups will show in the instance.
8. Use the Variable Text tab to select the content of notes appearing with the symbol.
9. Move the pointer on the drawing sheet. The symbol is attached to the pointer.
10. Click to place the symbol at a required location. You can continue placing the instance of that symbol at other locations. You can also select another symbol and place it at a required location.
11. When you have finished placing the symbols, click OK to close the Surface Finish dialog box.
