About Importing the Configurations of Creo Elements/Direct 3D Models as Explode and Combined States
Configurations are created as part of assemblies in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. Configurations include details of object positions and can contain alternate positions for the components in the assembly. You can use configurations to visualize assemblies with parts moved to locations that are different from their normal positions. They provide an alternate view of assembly models, such as the exploded views of assemblies.
When you import Creo Elements/Direct 3D models, the configurations in the assembly models are transferred to Creo Parametric as the combined and exploded states. A combined state is a combination of orientation, layer, and explode states. The associative import of Creo Elements/Direct*.mi, *.bi, or *.bdl drawing files also transfers views containing configuration details associatively to the 3D models as explode states. The corresponding exploded state of the assemblies are also transferred to Creo Parametric.
The import details of configurations that are defined as part of the Creo Elements/Direct 3D models are as follows:
The object position information that is stored in the active configuration creates an exploded view of the assembly.
The camera captured by the active configuration imports the configuration with its orientation. The configuration name is added to the Orientation tab in Creo Parametric.
The display state of the components, irrespective of their state in the configuration, convert to layer states.
A layer state captures the display state of the components in an assembly and is saved with the model. A layer state stores the list of layers and their status.
Docuplanes, with or without the assigned annotations and the associated configurations, import as combined states to Creo Parametric.
The details of the configurations are mapped as follows:

The docuplanes in the model configurations map to the corresponding combination states that are created in Creo Parametric. The combination states in Creo Parametric contain the view orientations and the annotations of the corresponding docuplanes in the Creo Elements/Direct 3D models. The names of the combination states are the same as the names of the imported docuplanes. For each imported docuplane that contains annotations in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling, a layer with the same name as the docuplane is created in Creo Parametric. This layer contains all the annotations of the exported docuplane.
When a configuration is saved with a camera view and the drawlist, that is, the visibility of components and assemblies, and the related Show and Hide capability, the orientation and zoom is stored with the configuration. The visibility of the models and the related hide and show capability of the configurations are preserved in the 3D models after import.
When configurations are placed under the top assembly, the immediate child components of the top assembly are hidden if the configurations hide them. Similarly, the immediate child components of sub-assemblies are hidden when the configurations are placed under the sub-assemblies. Additionally, when an assembly is partially hidden, no components are hidden. The entire assembly is shown.
When a top-assembly and one of its sub-assemblies have the same configuration name, the list of hidden components of the top assembly also includes the components of the sub-assembly. Therefore, when you activate the top-assembly configuration, components that are not intended to be hidden are not visible.
