About the Cast User Interface
The Cast user interface consists of tabs with groups of groups of commands on the View tab and the Cast tab and additional buttons on the Graphics toolbar.

Cast Tab
Assembly Group
Use the Assembly group to locate and place the reference model and workpiece.
• Reference
◦ Locate Reference Model—Opens the
Layout dialog box and the
Open dialog box to select and orient a reference model.
◦ Assemble Reference Model—Opens the
Open dialog box to select and place a reference part.
◦ Create Reference Model—Opens the
Create Component dialog box to create a reference model.
• Die Block
◦ Automatic Die Block—Opens the
Automatic Workpiece dialog box to create a workpiece using offsets from the reference part or by setting overall dimensions.
◦ Assemble Die Block—Opens the
Open dialog box to select a workpiece.
◦ Create Die Block—Opens the
Create Component dialog box to create a workpiece.
Shapes Group
Use the Shapes group to access tools to create volumes and components. For information about these tools, search the Help Center.
Design Features Group
Use the Design Features group to add draft, set the pull direction, add rounds, chamfers, and holes.
• Draft
◦ Draft—Opens the
Draft tab to define the draft for a reference part.
◦ Variable Pull Direction Draft—Opens the
Variable Pull Direction Draft tab to define the variable pull direction draft.
◦ Blend Tangent to Surfaces—Opens the SURFACE: Tangent Surface dialog box to blend the draft tangent to surfaces.
◦ Tangent Draft—When a part is active in the Mold & Cast application, opens the TANGENT DRAFT: Tangent Draft dialog box to add draft tangent to a reference part.
• Pull Direction—Opens the
Pull Direction dialog box to define or redefine the pull direction.
• Round
◦ Round—Opens the
Round tab to add rounds to volumes and components.
◦ Auto Round—Opens the
Auto Round tab to add rounds automatically to volumes and components.
• Hole—Opens the
Hole tab to add holes to volumes and components.
• Design Features
◦ Chamfer
▪ Edge Chamfer—Opens the
Chamfer tab to add chamfers to volumes and components.
▪ Corner Chamfer—Opens the
Corner Chamfer tab to add corner chamfers to volumes and components.
◦ Draft Line—Opens the
DRAFT LINE menu to create or redefine a draft line.
Parting Surface Design Group
Use the Parting Surface Design group to create a parting surface for a cast assembly. For information about the Part tools, search the Help Center.
• Silhouette Curve—Opens the
SILHOUETTE CURVE dialog box to define a silhouette curve for a parting surface or a skirt surface.
• Classify Surfaces—Opens the
Classify Surfaces tab to classify surfaces into Core, Cavity, and Slider regions.
• Skirt Surface—Opens the
Skirt Surface dialog box to create an automatic parting surface.
• Parting Surface Design
◦ Shadow Surface—Opens the
Shadow Surface menu to create a shadow surface.
Cast Geometry Group
Use the Cast Geometry group to split a model and create additional die volumes.
• Die Volume
◦ Die Volume—Opens the
Die Volume tab to create and perform operations on die volumes.
◦ Volume Split—Opens the
SPLIT VOLUME menu to split a die block, die volume, or selected components into one or two volumes.
◦ Shape Volume—Opens the
Shape Volume tab to shape a volume on one of the sides of the parting surface using classified surfaces.
• Attach—Opens the
Search Tool dialog box to define two or more mold volumes to attach.
• Rename Die Volume—Opens the
Properties dialog box to rename the die volumes.
• Refpart Cutout—Opens the
Refpart Cutout tab, which allows you to cut out the reference part from the die block.
• Cast Geometry
◦ Remove—Opens the
Remove tab to replace a specified surface.
◦ Area Offset—Opens the
Area Offset tab to define a section to offset.
Components Group
Use the Components group to extract die volumes, create cast results, assemble or create sand cores, fixtures, die components, and assemblies. Create a solid split, assemble catalogue components, or change the manufacturing classification of components.
• Cavity insert—Opens the
Create Die Component dialog box to extract a die volume into a part.
• Create Cast Result—Type the part name and common name of a component that represents the cast result.
• Sand Core
◦ Create Sand Core—Opens the
Create Component dialog box to create a sand core to add to a model.
◦ Assemble Sand Core—Opens the
Open dialog box to select a sand core to assemble.
• Components
◦ Shadow Cut—Creates a cut in a workpiece using a skirt or a shadow surface and one or more reference models.
◦ Fixture
▪ Create Fixture—Opens the Create Component dialog box to create a fixture.
▪ Assemble Fixture—Opens the Open dialog box to select a fixture.
◦ Die Component
▪ Create Die Component—Opens the Create Component dialog box to create a die component.
▪ Assemble Die Component—Opens the Open dialog box to select a die component.
◦ General Assembly
▪ Create Assembly—Opens the Create Component dialog box to create a subassembly.
▪ Assemble and Classify—Opens the Open dialog box to select and constrain an assembly. Use the CAST CLASS menu to classify the assembly.
◦ Solid Split—Opens the
CAST MDL TYP menu to split a part keeping the solid geometry.
◦ Catalog—Opens the
CATALOG menu to add, remove, or change a set of standard components, such as ejector pins and workpieces.
◦ Classify—Opens the
CAST RECLASS menu to reclassify a die block, fixture, or die component.
◦ Component Operations—Opens the COMPONENT menu to copy, insert, reorder, merge, or cut out a component.
Production Features Group
Use the Production Features group to add water lines, runners, and other features to the cast design.
• Water Line—Opens the
Water Line dialog box to sketch a water line and set the size and name.
• Runner—Opens the
Runner dialog box to sketch a runner and set the shape, name, size, flow path, and direction.
• Ejector Pin Hole—Opens the
EJ PIN HOLE: Straight dialog box to define the type, reference direction, intersection part, and counterbore information.
• Production Features
◦ Trim to Geometry—Opens the
MOLD MDL TYP menu to create a workpiece or mold base component and cut or trim the geometry.
◦ Slider—Opens the Slider Volume dialog box to calculate the undercut boundaries and create an automatic slider.
◦ Shrinkage
▪ Shrink by scale—Opens the
Shrinkage By Scale dialog box to set the shrinkage.
▪ Shrink by dimension—Opens the
Shrinkage By Dimension dialog box to set the shrinkage.
Analysis Group
Use the Analysis group to define the opening of a die, check the thickness, projection direction, parting surface, shrinkage, and other information about a cast design.
• Die Opening—Opens the
DIE OPEN menu to define the steps for the opening process, and check for interference and draft angle.
• Thickness—Opens the
Measure: 3DThickness dialog box to analyze the part for maximum and minimum thickness.
• Projected Area—Opens the
Measure dialog box to calculate the projection area and direction.
• Draft—Opens the
Draft dialog box to analyze the draft of the reference model.
• Analysis
◦ Section Thickness—Opens the
Model Analysis dialog box to calculate the thickness.
◦ Parting Surface Check—Opens the Part Srf Check menu to check the contour and for self-intersection of a parting surface.
◦ Mold Analysis—Opens the
Mold Analysis dialog box to calculate the minimum clearance of a waterline and to perform a draft check.
◦ Shrinkage Information—Opens an
INFORMATION WINDOW displaying shrinkage information.
◦ Cast—Opens the CAST INF dialog box to set the types of information to show about a cast design in a separate window.

View Tab
Visibility Group
Use the Visibility group to set the display of a cast design.
• Cast Display—Opens the
Blank - Unblank dialog box to remove or add specified components or volumes to the current display of the model.
• Die Volume Display
◦ Blank Geometry—Opens the
Search Tool dialog box to search for specified geometry to remove from the current display.
◦ Unblank Geometry—Opens the
Search Tool dialog box to search for specified geometry to add to the current display.
• Shade—Opens the
Search Tool dialog box to search for specified geometry to temporarily shade.
