Defining the Reference Model for Connector Designations
Use the Reference Model to set the top-level assembly that defines the boundary for external connector designations. By default, this is the harness assembly. You can select a different assembly if needed. Specify or replace the reference model using the 
Reference Model collector in the Cabling Tool dialog box. This ensures that external connector designations are possible at higher hierarchy levels.

This means only internal connectors can be designated.
• Replacing the Reference Model removes all previously manually designated external connectors but retains logical data and manually designated internal connectors.
