Tie Wrap
The Tie Wrap cosmetic component is used to represent the application of physical fasteners—such as zip ties or cable ties—that bundle wires or cables together in a harness assembly.
The representation for the tie wrap is as follows:
In centerline cable display, the tie wrap is shown as a line that corresponds to its width.
In thick cable display, the tie wrap appears as a cylinder that corresponds to its wall thickness.
Tie wraps parameters are controlled by the spool. You can edit spool-level parameters using the Electrical Parameters dialog box.
To Create a Tie Wrap
To create a tie wrap, do the following:
1. Click Tie Wrap from the Cosmetics ribbon group. The Tie Wrap tab opens.
2. Select either a location point or a segment of the active harness assembly. The selected segment or the location point will be displayed in Placement box.
3. Click to select existing spool or click to create a new spool. Modify the spool parameter values from the Electrical Parameters dialog box if needed. For more information, refer To Edit Spool Parameters.
4. In the Offset box, specify the value from the end of the selected segment where the tie wrap should be placed. It is indicated by an orange dot, which serves as the anchor point.
5. Click to flip the end of the selected segment on which to place the tie wrap.
6. (Optional) Modify the values for Members and Increment to create a pattern of tie wraps along the selected segment. Members defines the number of instances in the pattern, and Increment specifies the spacing between each instance, measured from the anchor point, which is indicated by an orange dot at the start of the segment.
*
Pattern creation is supported only when a segment is selected. If you select a location point, you can place multiple tie wraps, but you cannot create a pattern group.
7. In the Display panel, edit the value for Display Width and Display Thickness if required.
*
Display Width controls the visual length of the tie wrap in the graphics window, while Display Thickness controls the wall thickness of the cylindrical representation. These values affects only the visual representation and does not impact spool parameters.
8. Click OK. A Tie Wrap is created.
*
Use the Cabling Cosmetics Display Filters option from the in‑graphics toolbar to show or hide labels for tie wraps.
Patterned tie wraps form a Pattern group; deleting or suppressing one instance affects the entire group. You can modify individual instances as well. To do so, right-click the instance, select Edit Dimensions, and adjust the desired values. To reset the instance back to match the pattern group, use the Remove Varied Item command from the right-click menu.
To edit or update a tie wrap, select the tie wrap from the model tree or from the graphic window and use the Edit Definition command from the right-click menu.
