Default Layer Export Status Template for STEP AP242 Edition 3 Export
Creo Parametric 11.0.5.0
User Interface Location: N/A
Description
You can now apply a default layer export status for individual layers when exporting STEP AP242 Edition 3 parts. Previously, the export status of layers had to be manually assigned for each model using Customize Layers (accessible after checking the Customize Export checkbox in the Save a Copy dialog box).
With the new functionality introduced in Creo Parametric 11.0.5.0, you can now save the layer export status of Creo Parametric part layers and then use it as a template when exporting parts to STEP AP242 Edition 3. When this template is applied, layers with the same name as the layers in the template are assigned the corresponding export status by default.
Any layer name present in the template but not in the part will not be modified or added by the template. Similarly, any layer name in the part but not in the template will not be modified by the template.
To create and assign templates, this new functionality introduces two new concepts:
• The Layer Customization File (LCF), which contains a list of layer names and their export status.
• The Part layer template option in the STEP Export Profile Settings allows you to specify the path to a layer customization file.
To create a Layer Customization File:
1. In the Save a Copy dialog box, select STEP (*.stp) as the Type then select Options.
2. Set the Application protocol to ap242_e3 then select OK to return to the Save a Copy dialog box.
3. Check the Customize Export checkbox and click OK. The Export STEP dialog box opens.
4. Select Customize Layers. The Choose Layers dialog box opens.
5. You can select the Export Status for each layer: Ignore or Exclude Content. The default is Ignore.
6. You can save the changes as a text file. Select > .
The figure below shows the Part layer template option in the STEP Export Profile Settings dialog box.
Benefits
• Less time spent manually setting layer export statuses
• Export multiple STEP files in batch mode with more consistent results
