About Anatomical Planes
You can orient the manikin segment that is reaching for a target by aligning the segment with a planar entity in the scene. To enable alignment, each manikin segment contains three anatomical planes. Anatomical planes are conceptual planes that pass through the manikin to describe location.
In the image, the manikin is standing in anatomical position. The arms are at the sides, with the palms of the hands facing forward. When the manikin is in anatomical position, you can see the anatomical planes for the whole manikin easily. The same principles apply in any posture. The same principles apply to each manikin segment.
