To Relate a Surface Finish with Other Annotations
For Model-Based Definition (MBD), you can relate a surface finish to any annotations so that the surface finish follows the annotation throughout the model, ensuring that the surface finish and related object stay together. An exception to this is the datum feature symbol annotations: you cannot relate surface finish to datum feature symbol annotations.
To Relate a surface finish
To relate a surface finish to an existing annotation, you must select a surface finish that has automatic and free mode as the placement type attribute in the definition.
1. Select a surface finish from surface finish gallery. Alternatively, select a surface finish and click Repeat.
2. Select the annotation to relate the surface finish to. The selected annotation is highlighted if it is eligible to be a parent annotation for the surface finish.
3. Position the surface finish in the graphics window, a temporary guideline is shown to adjust the offset placement of the surface finish.
4. Middle-click to place the surface finish as an offset annotation. The surface finish is related to the annotation and will maintain the offset distance from the annotation.
Alternatively, you can also use the Change Placement command to relate a surface finish to any annotation.
When you relate a surface finish to an annotation, if the parent annotation moves, the related surface finish also moves. If you unassign or erase the parent annotation the related surface finish is also affected and vice versa
When relating a surface finish to other annotations, the relate functionality supports some of the placement options of surface finish as per ISO 1302 and ASME Y14.36 standards.
*
The offset surface finish gets placed on the same annotation plane as the parent annotation.
You can relate multiple surface finishes to a single annotation. However, in MBD and drawing mode, you cannot relate another surface finish to a surface finish that is already related to an annotation.
When a parent annotation is rotated using the Change Orientation command, rotation of the related surface finish is also supported.
Highlighting Preferences
When you select an annotation with a related surface finish, the annotation and the related surface finish are automatically highlighted in the graphics window. The related symbols are highlighted in the secondary color. When you select a related surface finish, the parent annotation is automatically highlighted in the secondary color.
To Unrelate a surface finish
To disassociate a related surface finish from the parent annotation, use the Unrelate command from the context menu.
