Modifying Spools
Cabling enables you to perform the following operations on spools:
To Read Spools
1. Click
Spools. The
SPOOLS menu appears.
2. Click Read. The Open dialog box opens.
3. Select a .spl file and click Open. The contents of the spool (.spl) file are read and a spool with parameters and values specified in the spool file is created. You can view the selected spools in the All Spools list when you create a new wire, cable or sheath.
To Edit Spool Parameters
• To edit spool from the Menu Manager:
1. Click
Spools. The
SPOOLS menu manager appears.
2. Click Edit. The Select Spools dialog box opens.
3. Select a filter from the drop-down list box to sort the spools by spool type or number of conductors.
4. Click the spool name for which you want to update the parameters.
5. Click OK. The Electrical Parameters dialog box opens.
6. Select the parameters and specify a value in the Value box, and click OK.
7. Click Done/Return on the SPOOLS menu.
• To edit spool parameters from the shortcut menu:
1. Right-click the name of the spool from the Model Tree and click
. The
Electrical Parameters dialog box opens.
2. Select the parameters and specify a value in the Value box, and click OK.
| • The spool parameters that are imported from logical data are automatically updated when the logical data is updated. • To edit spool parameters that are imported from logical data in the cabling design, set the configuration option allow_logical_spool_editing to yes. |
To Re-assign a Spool to a Cable or Wire
1. Click > . The Select menu appears.
2. Select one or multiple cable or wire for which you want to change the spool and click OK. The Electrical Parameters dialog box opens.
3. Select the value in the Spool column for the cable or wire and assign a different spool from the Value drop-down list box.
4. Click OK.
To Rename Spools
• To rename a spool from the Menu Manager:
1. Click
Spools. The
SPOOLS menu manager appears.
2. Click Rename. The Select Spools dialog box opens.
3. Select a filter from the drop-down list box to sort the spools by spool type or number of conductors.
4. Click the spool name that you want to rename.
5. Click OK. The Enter new name for spool [Quit] box opens.
6. Type a new name for the spool and click
.
7. Click Done/Return on the SPOOLS menu.
• To rename a spool from the shortcut menu:
1. Right-click the name of the spool from the Model Tree and click Rename.
2. Type a new name for the spool and press ENTER. The selected spool is renamed.
| • If the configuration option allow_logical_spool_editing is set to no, the Rename option in the shortcut menu is disabled. • If you have renamed spools using the Select Spools dialog box or using the shortcut menu, all wires or cables in the Cabling assembly reference the renamed spool. If the assembly logically references a Schematic, then renaming a spool in Creo Schematics and updating the logical reference also renames the corresponding spools in the assembly. Use Update to overwrite the existing cabling spool parameters with the modified spool parameters of the logically referenced diagram. |
In a comparison between an assembly and a logically referenced diagram, if a spool in the assembly has the same parameter values as the spool in the logically referenced diagram, then both these spools are recognized to be the same.
To Delete Spools
• To remove spools from menu manager:
1. Click
Spools. The
SPOOLS menu manager appears.
2. Click Remove. The Select Spools dialog box opens.
3. Select a filter from the drop-down list box to sort the spools by spool type or number of conductors.
4. Click the spool name that you want to remove.
5. Click OK. The selected spool is deleted.
• To remove spools from shortcut menu:
1. Right-click the name of the spool from the Model Tree and click Delete. The Delete confirmation message appears.
2. Click OK. The selected spool is deleted.
To List Spools
1. Click
Spools. The
SPOOLS menu manager appears.
2. Click List. The INFORMATION WINDOW opens displaying the list of all spools along with their type.
3. Click > if you want to save the spool information to a file.
4. Click Close to close the INFORMATION WINDOW.
