Definition

---|---|
composite material
A solid material that combines the useful properties of two or more materials and overcomes the limitations of individual materials. Fiber reinforced polymer composites offer high specific properties, the ability to tailor mechanical performance to your specific requirements and the ability to form complex geometric shapes.
constituent fiber angles
The angles of the constituent fibers of a material defined with respect to the material roll direction.
core
A thick ply made up of materials such as balsa, foam, or honeycomb. A core is defined by boundary, rosette, material, orientation, drop-off, name, sequence, and taper.
cured thickness
The thickness of a material after curing.
darting
A method for removing excess material to conform the ply to the required shape and avoid wrinkling.
draping angle offset
The angular offset of the draping simulation direction from the material roll direction.
drop-off distance
The distance between the sidewall of a lower ply and the dropped ply.
flat pattern
A 2D shape that can be cut out of a flat fabric and used to obtain the desired 3D shape.
inner mold line (IML)
The un-molded face of the cured laminate.
layup surface
The molded surface onto which plies are laid. A layup surface can be an individual surface, a complete quilt, or multiple surfaces of the same quilt or body.
limit angle
The angle beyond which the material wrinkles during deformation, and it is the limit of the acceptable deformation during draping.
manual ply
A single ply defined by the boundary, rosette, material, orientation, drop-off, name, and sequence.
ply drop-off
A term applied when a lower ply in the stack terminates and subsequent plies continue over it.
ply orientation
The angle value that specifies the orientation of the ply relative to the X-axis of the rosette.
ply sequence
Determines the order of placement of the laminate objects on the mold both in Creo and in production.
profile transition
A transition that has a constant offset between the edges of subsequent plies.
roll width
The width of the roll of a fabric raw material.
rosette
A reference coordinate system that defines a reference direction for the ply and core orientations.
seed point
The first point of contact between the ply and the mold or the underlying ply.
simplification angle
The angle between the polyline segments in the ply flat pattern below which the polyline segments merge.
solidification
A method for generating a solid from the geometries of the laminate objects.
splicing
A method for cutting a bigger ply to smaller plies, for example, when the ply width exceeds the roll width.
step length
The distance between adjacent drape points. The step length determines the resolution of the draping simulation.
uncured thickness
The thickness of a material before it is hardened.
warn angle
The angle at which an alert is generated when the material undergoes deformation during draping.
warp fiber
The fibers that are along the material roll direction and perpendicular to the weft fibers.
weft fiber
The fibers that are along the width of the roll and perpendicular to the warp fibers.
