Remote solving
Analysis jobs that require long solving times and would block up your session can be analyzed using the remote server concept. Instead of letting the analysis to run within your current session, you send it off to be solved on a remote server. Once the job is finished, you receive it back and load it into your current session.
This process is also available in other modules such as in the Creo Elements/Direct Annotation module for to update complex drawings.
A separate license is required for remote solving.
Customize the server installation
The file da_server_config under personality/DesignAdvisor is used in a similar way as the file da_customize to customize Creo Elements/Direct Finite Element Analysis. You can directly customize the file, copy the file with the new name as da_server_config and then make necessary changes. When you remotely start Creo Elements/Direct Modeling with Creo Elements/Direct Finite Element Analysis as a server, it does not read the da_customize file. Instead it looks for a file da_server_config in the profile directories. The location of these directories depends on the version of the operating system of the server. The CheckRemoteSolver tool can be used on different versions of operating systems to find the profile directories with the da_server_config file.
To use the check remote solver tool on your local machine:
To use the check remote solver tool on your local machine:
1. Click File > Modules. The Modules dialog box opens.
2. Click the FEA check box in the Applications pane. The Finite Element Analysis tabs appear on the ribbon.
3. Click File > Remote. The Remote dialog box opens.
4. Click Dispatcher in the Remote dialog box. Configure the dispatcher port and host to connect to the remote server. After successful connection the Job Status and Server Status are enabled in the Remote dialog box.
5. Type (load "goodies/goodies")(load "remote_solver_check") in the user input line. A new option CheckRemoteSolver appears in the Toolbox.
6. Click CheckRemoteSolver in the Toolbox. The CheckRemoteSolver dialog box opens.
7. Click in the CheckRemoteSolver dialog box. A Question dialog box prompts for confirmation to delete the actual model and later the Output window displays the information that is received from the remote server.
The CheckRemoteSolver tool searches for the da_server_config file in the profile directories on the server. Since at this time the da_server_config file does not exist on the server, the CheckRemoteSolver tool lists the profile directories that it has searched. You can copy the da_server_config file from personality/DesignAdvisor to one of the profile directories that have been searched and listed by the CheckRemoteSolver tool, and customize the file. When you now remotely start Creo Elements/Direct Modeling with Creo Elements/Direct Finite Element Analysis as a server, it finds the da_server_config file that you have copied to the profile directory.
The nastran-scratchdir directory has major effect upon the performance of the FEA-Run on the server, therefore ensure that the directory exists on local disk drive that has a good performance interface. The templates for da_server_config that are shipped with Creo Elements/Direct Modeling have additional hints to customize more than one server with the same file. This can be useful in cases where you want to use configurations using SDCORPCUSTOMIZEDIR or SDSITECUSTOMIZEDIR directories.
Submit an analysis job to the remote server
In the Define Job dialog box select Remote in the Solving Control box. (The Local (default) option analyzes the job locally.) This contacts the dispatcher and the analysis job is sent off. In the meantime, the study owner is set to read-only to prevent further modifications to the study. While a study is being solved remotely, modifications to the study or to geometry referenced by the study are not possible and not supported. This is to ensure that once the results are received they are still consistent with the reference model.
Receive the remote job
In the Retrieve Result dialog box select Receive Job in the Retr mode box (default). (The Database option refers to locally-analyzed jobs.) This loads the results of the analysis job back into the session and incorporates them into the study. The study owner is set to modifiable again (provided no other remote analysis jobs are still running) and you can again modify the study.
Set the study owner to modifiable
If you cancel a remote job via the Job Status dialog box, you must manually set the owner of the study to modifiable.
Limitations
Remote Solving is not available for H-adaptivity and for assembly analysis.
