Compare BOM versions
Use Compare BOM to show differences between BOM versions, BOM Checkpoints, or between BOM versions and BOM Checkpoints. Compare BOM shows if the later version has deleted, added, or modified parts or assemblies compared to the previous version.
Your options for comparing BOM versions or BOM Checkpoints depend on which level of BOM management you have set in your Preferences. For more information, see Change your preferences and Manage BOMs.
To compare BOM versions,
1. Select a Masterdata in the workspace, click Structure and then, in the BOM group, click BOM Editor. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click BOM > BOM Editor. The BOM Editor dialog box opens.
2. Click Compare in BOM Tasks. If you want to compare a previous version, click File > Open By Version.
3. In the Configure BOM Compare pane of the Compare BOM dialog box, select a BOM version to compare with your previously selected version.
If you select Previous version, Next version, or Latest version, click Finish.
If you select Choose a specific version, click Next. Select a BOM version to use in the comparison from the drop-down lists under Version. Click Finish.
The BOM Editor displays the assembly structure and the items that were deleted, added, modified, or new for the later version.

An assembly is shown as modified when children are added or deleted from that assembly.
To compare BOM versions and BOM Checkpoints,

You must have a saved Checkpoint to compare against a BOM version.
1. Open the BOM Checkpoint, or BOM version you want to compare.
2. Click Compare in BOM Tasks.
To compare a BOM Checkpoint to a BOM version: Select a BOM version in the Compare BOM dialog box.
To compare a BOM version to a BOM checkpoint: select Choose a checkpoint and choose a checkpoint to use in the comparison.
The BOM Editor displays the assembly structure and the items that were deleted, added, modified, or new for the later version.
To compare BOM Checkpoints,
1. Open the BOM Checkpoint you want to compare.
2. Click Compare in BOM Tasks.
3. In the Compare BOM dialog box, select Choose a checkpoint.
4. Select a checkpoint to use in the comparison.
The BOM Editor displays the assembly structure and the items that were deleted, added, modified, or new for the later version.
To compare BOM reports,
1. Generate two or more BOM reports. The BOM Editor dialog box opens. For more information, see Generate a BOM report.
2. Click Compare in the BOM Tasks panel. The Compare BOM dialog box opens.
3. Select Choose consolidated/flattened reports to compare or Choose structured reports to compare.
4. Click Next. The Choose reports to compare page opens.
5. Specify the BOM reports to be compared and click Finish. The BOM Editor displays the differences between the BOM reports in a predefined format. Click Tools > Compare > Format to change the predefined format.
To change the color of modified items in the Compare results,
1. In BOM Editor select Tools > CompareFormat.
2. Select the Item from the list: Added Items, Deleted Items, Modified Items, New Items.
3. Click Select.
4. Click a color square to choose a new color, or use the other tabs to create custom colors.
5. Click OK.
6. You can see your changes in the Preview box.
7. When you have changed all the colors, click OK.
