You can set the Insert Required Elements option to provide automatic insertion of required elements. For example, if your document type has a chapter element which requires a title element, this setting will insert the title element when you insert the chapter element.

Go to the Tools > Preferences dialog box. Choose the Edit category and turn on the Insert Required Elements preference.
