Arbortext Editor lets you create different versions within a single document whether for multiple languages or multiple purposes. For example, you might want to produce two versions of a company procedures manual that include different procedures for different departments. You can mark sections of a document for the different versions using special markup tags. You can change the settings on these markup tags to specify which sections to INCLUDE or IGNORE each time you produce a different version.

You can also create a marked section with a status set to IGNORE to contain editorial comments that include markup.

Although you cannot insert tags or entity references in marked sections set to IGNORE, you can edit them just as you would with an ASCII editor, typing in markup within angle brackets, for example. During context checking, the context of a marked section with status set to IGNORE is not checked.

To set up the markup icons needed to produce multiple versions, you declare marked section parameter entities. A marked section parameter entity then becomes a special tag, the status of which you set to either INCLUDE or IGNORE.
