Inserting a File Reference
You can create links to other files to include their contents in a document using either XML inclusion and entity references.
1. Before inserting file references, you might need to indicate which method you want to use by choosing Tools > Preferences and selecting the Advanced button.
2. Navigate to the filereference set option in the Preference list. The default value for this set option is xinclude. If you would prefer to use file entities, choose the Edit button to change this option to entity.
3. When you have made your selection, choose OK to exit the Preferences dialog box.
4. Choose Insert > File Reference. The Locate File to Reference dialog box opens.
5. Navigate to the file you want to insert. Highlight and open the file. The contents of the file must be valid at the insertion point or the insertion will fail.
If you use inclusions, the file reference will now exist as an included object, using a URI to reference the file location. The contents of the file referenced will be displayed. Refer to Inserting an XML inclusion for information about working with inclusions.
If you have chosen to use entities, the file reference will now exist as an entity, using the same name as the file it was created from. The entity tag shows the path and file name of the entity. The entity now appears in the file entity list when you choose Entities > File.
