Assigning Security Labels
Security labels enable you to mark documents as containing sensitive or restricted information. A PTC Server can use security labels to determine whether a user can access a document object or just to provide security related information about the object. For example, an object could have a security label called External Clearance that has the values True or False. An object can have multiple security labels assigned to it. The PTC Server connection enables you to assign a security label to a new document that you are adding to the PTC Server. To use security labels, your administrator must enable them in your burst configuration and there must be an XML tag or attribute in your document type associated with each security label. The security label is assigned as the content of the associated XML tag or attribute. When you add a new document to the PTC Server, your burst configuration takes the value of any security label tags or attributes in the document and transfers that value to the appropriate security label property on the new PTC Server object.
Follow these steps to assign a security label to a new PTC Server object:
1. Author a new document in Arbortext Editor.
2. If the security label is associated with a tag in your document type, follow these steps to assign a security label:
a. Place the cursor inside of the tag that has the security label associated with it.
b. Enter the desired value for the security label.
3. If the security label is associated with an attribute in your document type, follow these steps to assign a security label:
a. Place the cursor inside of the tag that has the security label attribute associated with it.
b. Choose > .
The Modify Attributes dialog box opens.
c. In the dialog box, change the value of the security label attribute to the desired value and select OK to close the dialog box.
Your administrator can provide information about both the appropriate tag or attribute associated with a security label and the required security label values.
4. Choose > .
If your system administrator has set the burst configuration to enable users to specify where documents are stored in the PTC Server, the Save As Properties dialog box opens. Otherwise, the document is stored in the PTC Server at the location specified by the burst configuration. If the dialog box appears, enter the required information and select OK.
The PTC Server connection bursts the document into the PTC Server objects indicated by your burst configuration. In the process, any security labels are assigned to the new objects.
You cannot use the PTC Server connection to modify the security labels on existing objects. To modify an existing security label, you must use the PTC Server HTML interface. You can view an object’s existing security labels in the PTC Server connectionObject Properties dialog box.
