Information Structure Tab of the Publication Structure
The Information Structure tab on the Structure tab for a publication structure enables you to insert content from an information structure into a publication structure. The tab is divided into the following sections:
The actions toolbar
The information structure pane
The Actions Toolbar
The actions toolbar appears at the top of the tab. The actions in the toolbar are divided into sections called action sets. The following table covers the action sets on the toolbar.
Actions Set
Actions
Includes actions that determine where to insert content selected in the information structure into a publication structure.
Includes actions that select the information structure to be displayed, and change the information displayed in the information structure.
Includes actions to view and edit the filters used to display the information structure.
Insert into Publication Structure Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Insert into Publication Structure action set:

Insert Before
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure before the object selected in the publication structure.

Insert After
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure after the object selected in the publication structure.
Insert as First Child
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure as the first object in the hierarchy of the selected object in the publication structure. This choice is only available when a publication structure or publication section is selected in the publication structure.
Insert as Last Child
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure as the last object in the hierarchy of the selected object in the publication structure. This choice is only available when a publication structure or publication section is selected in the publication structure.
Viewing Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Viewing action set:
Action

Views
Enables you to change the columns displayed in the structure pane. Select a previously defined view from the drop-down list or create a new view using Manage Structure Views. For more information about creating table views, see Using Tables.
Save any changes that you have made to the current view with the Save Structure View option.
Display
Enables you to change how objects are displayed within the structure. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Select All – Selects and highlights all objects displayed in the structure, enabling you to perform other actions on the selected objects.

Objects that are not expanded and visible in the structure are not selected.
Expand All Levels – Expands all hierarchy levels for the selected object in the structure.
Expand Selected by – Expands the hierarchy by the number of levels you specify. Choose the number of levels from the sub menu, or choose All Levels. Specify a custom level using n Levels.
Collapse All Levels – Collapses all hierarchy levels for the selected object in the structure.
Open Information Structure – Provides a list of information structures associated with the product. Select one to open it in the tab.
Display Parent Information Structure — Opens the parent information structure of the information structure or information object that is currently open or selected in the tab.
Refresh – Refreshes the display of the structure preserving the current expansion state.

The top object is selected when the refresh is complete. An object selection within the structure is not retained.
Filter Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Filter action set:
Action
Description
Edit Filter
Enables you to define a new structure filter. For more information, see Editing a Structure Filter.
Current Filter
Enables you to display the Current Filter window with a full description of applied filters. Hover your pointer over the Current Filter icon to see a summary of the structure filters currently applied to the structure. For more information, see Viewing a Structure’s Current Filter Properties.
Saved Filters
Enables you to select a saved structure filter for use in the structure pane. The following actions are also available in the drop-down menu:
Save – Creates a named copy of the existing filter criteria for later use. For more information, see Saving a Structure Filter.
Manage Filters – Selects the saved structure filters that are seen in the drop-down menu and shared with others. For more information, see Managing Filters in a Structure.
The Information Structure Pane
The information structure pane shows a read-only view of the information structure for the current context. An information structure is a product-centric hierarchical structure that organizes information related to servicing a product. For more information about information structures, see About Information Structures.
You can open and close the content of the groups and other information structures included in the structure by clicking on the small triangle to the left of that content in the structure. Above the tree hierarchy is the Find in Structure text box. You can enter search terms to locate objects in the structure. Use the arrows next to the Find in Structure text box to find the matches for your search in the structure.
An information structure can contain many different types of content. However, you can only insert the following types of content into a publication structure:
Textual Content Holder
Parts List Holder
Click on an object in the structure to select it or CTRL+click to select multiple objects. You can use the shortcut menu (right click) to perform actions on a selected object. The following actions are available from the shortcut menu:

Insert Before
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure before the object selected in the publication structure.
Insert After
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure after the object selected in the publication structure.
Insert as First Child
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure as the first object in the hierarchy of the selected object in the publication structure. This choice is only available when a publication structure or publication section is selected in the publication structure.
Insert as Last Child
Inserts the content holder or holders selected in the information structure as the last object in the hierarchy of the selected object in the publication structure. This choice is only available when a publication structure or publication section is selected in the publication structure.
Copy
Copies the selected object to the clipboard.
Use the > Quick Links > Clipboard menu option to view the clipboard.

Pasting information groups from the information structure tab into a publication structure is not supported.
Open in Information Structure Tab
Opens the selected object in the tab, replacing the primary information structure.
Display Parent Information Structure
Opens the parent information structure of the information structure or information object that is currently open or selected in the tab.
Expand Selected by
Expands the hierarchy by the number of levels you specify. Choose the number of levels from the sub menu, or choose All Levels. Specify a custom level using n Levels.
If you wish to create a publication structure from an information structure, refer to Generating a Publication Structure.
Sorting and Filtering the Information Structure Pane
Click a column header to sort the information structure shown in the pane in ascending or descending order based on the values in that column, for example you can sort by Name. The current order is indicated by the presence of an up arrow icon (ascending) or a down arrow icon (descending) in the column header.
You can also select actions that allow you to sort and filter default or customized views of the information structure by clicking the arrow to the right of a column header:

Sort Ascending
Sort the list in ascending order on the values in this column.
Sort Descending
Sort the list in descending order on the values in this column.
Columns
Displays check boxes for you to select the columns you want to display in the table.
Filters
Provides an option to filter the display of the structure based on certain values in this column. The type of filter presented depends on the type of information in the column.
When a filter is set for a column, its title is shown in bold and italic.
Clear All Filters
Remove filters set for the list.
