Moving an Object
The Move action allows you to move:
All versions of an object among products and libraries
View versions of an object within the same product or library
Selected versions of an object within the same product or library
*
The Move action is not available for projects or programs.
Other move restrictions apply. For more information, see Move Restrictions.
The following objects can be moved:
parts
documents
CAD documents
document and note templates
baselines
folders, including all folder contents and links
change objects
You can move an object at any time, but it is best to move it when its latest version is released. This ensures that new versions are assigned a team and life cycle based on the initialization rules set for that context.
To move objects:
1. Initiate the Move action from the right-click actions menu available in most table rows throughout Windchill. You can also use the Actions menu available in the following locations:
The Folder Contents table for product and library contexts
The Search Results table
Information pages for moveable objects
2. From the Move window, use the Collect Objects table to collect related objects that you might also want to move. Select the checkboxes next to objects that you want to include or exclude. For more information, see About the Collector.
3. In the New Location column, set the new location for each object:
a. Click the set location icon in the row for that object.
The Set Location window opens.
b. Select the context and folder where you want to move the object, and then click OK.
*
You can view the contents of the selected folder by clicking Open.
*
You must have the appropriate permissions in both the source and destination folders.
4. Select one of the following options. Unless you are moving all versions, the move must be within the same product or library.
Move all versions of displayed objects
Only Move versions of displayed view—For example, move objects in the Design view but not objects in the Manufacturing view.
Only Move displayed versions—For example, if object B.2 appears in the table, move B.1 and B.2 but not versions A.1, A.2, and A.3.
*
The default value can be set in the following preference: Integral Operations > Move Collector > Default Collection.
5. Select the Ignore objects in other contexts checkbox if you do not want the associated objects from other contexts included in the move.
6. In the Move window, click OK.
The object has been moved. Although it is now in a new location, its name and number have not changed.
If the Event Console window opens, the move has failed. Click Details in the Event Console window to view details about the conflict. If resolution options are available, they appear in a conflict resolution window, allowing you to ignore conflicting objects and proceed with the move.
