Inserting Links
In a rich content field, you can insert hyperlinks to external web sites, links to attachments in the current item, and links to other items.
Inserting a Link in the Web Interface
In the Web interface, you use the rich content toolbar to insert attachment links and hyperlinks. To insert item links, you do the following:
1. Select the text where you want to add the item link and then click the insert item link icon on the rich content toolbar. The Create Item Link window opens.
2. For Item ID, specify the ID of the item. You can enter the ID or click the ... button to locate the item.
3. For Display Text, specify the display text. The text that was selected when you clicked the insert item link icon is the default.
4. For Tooltip, specify the text to display when the mouse is placed over the item link.
5. For View item as of, specify how to display the item link Choices are:
Label—Specifies an item by its label. For more information, see Working With Item Labels.
*
The item link does not function if the following characters are used in the label: < > & $
Edit—Specifies an edit entry in the item history.
Date—Specifies a historical date for the item. For more information, see Viewing a Historical Item.
Current—Specifies that the item link display the item as of the moment the hyperlink is clicked.
Revision—Specifies a specific item revision. For information on searching by item revision, see Searching for Items.
Inserting a Link in the GUI
In the GUI, do the following to insert a link:
1. Highlight the text or click the location where you want to add the link.
2. Select Edit > Insert > Attachment Link, Hyperlink, or Item Link. The window for inserting rich content opens.
3. Complete this window appropriately. For more information, see Insert <Rich Content Object>/Link Properties Window (GUI).
Key Considerations
Hyperlinks must begin with HTTP:// or HTTPS://. When an item is edited, other paths for hyperlinks can navigate correctly. However, the behavior is dependent on the browser used.
Any URL that you enter as part of Insert Hyperlink or Insert Image is checked for compliance with the RFC 2396 (Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI): Generic Syntax), which describes the syntax and format of a URI. The following characters are considered illegal in a URI:
control= <US-ASCII coded characters 00-1F and 7F hexadecimal>
space=<US-ASCII coded character 20 hexadecimal>
delims=”<”|”>” | “#” | “%” | <”>
unwise=”{” | “|” | “\” | “^” | “[“ | “]” | “’”
If these characters exist in the URI, Integrity Lifecycle Manager will not create the hyperlink. Integrity Lifecycle Manager supports only the SPACE character among the mentioned illegal characters.
To follow a link in the rich content field, click the link. If inline editing is enabled, CTRL+click the link.
If document versioning is enabled, you can insert hyperlinks to versioned items. To type the ID of a versioned item, use the format Live Item ID-major.minor. For example, type 184-1.2.
