Advanced Shells
After you have specified a name, the associated surfaces, and the Advanced shell type in the Shell Definition dialog box, you must provide the following information in the Properties area:
Shell Property—Click the arrow to display a drop-down list of shell properties already associated with your model. If you do not see what you want in the drop-down list, click More to open the Shell Properties dialog box, where you can define a new shell property, name it, and specify its type and thickness.
Material—Click the arrow to display a drop-down list of material properties already associated with your model. If you do not see what you want in the drop-down list, click More to display the Materials dialog box, where you can assign a material from the library to your model, or define a new material.
The Material drop-down list is not be active if you select shell properties that are not homogenous. For example, if the shell property you select is a laminate layup, the Material drop-down list is not active.
Material Orientation—Click the arrow to display a drop-down list that shows the material orientations on the surfaces of your model. If you do not see what you want in the drop-down list, click More to display the Material Orientations dialog box, where you can assign a material orientation to your shell, or create a new orientation.

* Surfaces are displayed as parts in the Material Orientations dialog box for 2D models. In addition, the Material Orientation selection area is not available for 2D plain strain, and 2D axisymmetric models.
