Creo Flexible Modeling > Recognizing Geometry Patterns > To Recognize a Geometry Pattern

To Recognize a Geometry Pattern
1. Select the pattern leader geometry and click Flexible Modeling > Pattern Recognition. The Pattern Recognition tab opens. A black dot appears on geometry that is recognized as part of a pattern.
2. To add to or change the pattern leader geometry selection:
For surfaces, right-click and choose Pattern leader surfaces from the shortcut menu, or click the Leader surfaces collector on the References tab, and select geometry.
For curves or datums, right-click and choose Pattern leader curves and datums from the shortcut menu, or click the Leader curves and datums collector on the References tab, and select geometry.
3. To include in the pattern recognition the selected rounds and chamfers that attach the pattern leader geometry to the model, click the References tab and check the Transform selected attachment rounds/chamfers check box. If you do not check this check box, the selected attaching rounds and chamfers are removed and optionally recreated.
4. Select geometry that is either Identical or Similar to the pattern leader.
5. If more than one pattern is identified, select the pattern to recognize, Direction, Axis, or Spatial.
6. To limit pattern recognition to a region of the model, do the following:
a. Select the Restrict pattern recognition check box on the Options tab.
b. Select one of the following options:
Select Surfaces, and select surfaces that the geometry must intersect in order to be recognized as part of the pattern.
Select Sketch, and select a sketch whose extrusion defines a boundary that geometry must lie within to be recognized as part of the pattern.
7. To edit the number and spacing of the recognized pattern members (optional for direction and axis patterns), select the Allow edit check box on the Options tab, and edit the recognized geometry. The existing pattern surfaces are removed, and the pattern is recreated using only the surfaces that are recognized as part of the pattern.
8. (Optional) To omit a pattern member from being included in the Pattern Recognition feature, click the dot in the graphics window. Click the dot again to recover a pattern member that was omitted.
9. To set the attachment options:
a. Click the Options tab, and select the Allow edit check box.
b. Click the Attachment tab, and do the following:
To attach all pattern members to the model geometry, select the Attach pattern members check box. To unattach the geometry, clear the check box.
To attach all pattern members to the model geometry with rounds or chamfers of the same type and dimensions as the pattern leader, select the Create rounds/chamfers check box. To remove the rounds or chamfers from the pattern members, clear the check box.
10. Click or middle-click. The recognized geometry is saved as a pattern feature that you can manipulate as a unit.

* Currently, the original appearances of the recognized surfaces or quilts of all the pattern members, including the pattern leader, are not preserved by the Pattern Recognition feature when the Allow edit check box is selected. Upon feature creation, the recognized surfaces will display the model default appearance.
