About Using Overlays
Using Overlay on the Legacy Dwg menu, you can superimpose selected views or an entire sheet of the specified drawing over the current drawing sheet. The OVERLAY DWG menu displays the following:
Add Overlay—Places an overlay (a drawing sheet or an individual model view) on the current drawing.
Del Overlay—Deletes an overlay from the drawing.
Move Overlay—Moves an overlay about the drawing.
When using overlays, keep in mind the following:
Overlays are read-only in the current drawing.
Overlays update to changes in the source drawing.
Overlaid views display with all detail items.
Overlays cannot be selected for any drawing operation.
If the size of the current drawing is different from the size of the source drawing, the overlays brought into the current drawing maintain the same screen size as they had in the source drawing. That is, they take up the same portion of the graphics window
